I just recently got in contact with Albert Burkey (our cousin). He says he was told that when our family came from Germany with the name of Schoolcraft, that some of the clan decided to split and change their name to Burkey. Not sure how true this is. But I have found a James Burkey that married Evaline Schoolcraft in WVA. & he also said, That Anna Majestic married a Burkey. That is where the Indian heritage comes from.
