My Peter Burkey parents were "Big" Peter Berkey and Sallie Wohlford. and they came from a nearby county as you suggested. In this case very nearby. They were from the Paint twp of Somerset Co which is only a few miles south of Johnstown. I can trace the family back to Leonard Burgi of Switzerland in the 1600s. Thanks

There are about 1800 Burkeys and a lot more Berkeys and other spellings. http://66.219.132.96:2317/kidron?lang=en&m=NG&n=burkey&t=N I noticed a few minor errors (my name is Adams, etc) but a great resource. try the Relationship Computing options.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/CmG.2ACIB/69.1.1 Message Board Post: hi frank i have since found out my Peter was the son of "Big Peter" Berkey of Somerset Co, PA and the grandson of Jacob and can be traced back to Leonard Burgi of Switzerland. We might still be related but my name changed from Berkey to Burkey around 1880. I know none of my Burkeys went to WVA and so any connection would have to be a lot earlier during my "Berkey" era. You might try the Kidron database of Karen Lint. She has about 6000 Berkeys, Burkeys, etc she has 16 peter burkeys but no clay burkeys. she has 4 clayton berkeys. http://66.219.132.96:2317/kidron?lang=en;m=N;o=i;v=burkey#P I can possibly give you a little more help but i would need the name of a spouse or parent and of course some luck. bye
