I have found it at http://www.omii.org/omii.htm Kidron is the first choice. You can also pick Karen Lint's database as that is the one with the Berkey/Burkey data. Kidron includes Karen Lint's data. I highly recommend this project. I am not a member of OMII, just a visitor. I wish my other families had this resource! Good Luck.

Since I posted the letter I did "discover" Peter's line back to the 1600s. My g grandfather Peter Burkey was born in 1850 or 51 in Paint, Somerset Co, PA. His father was Peter Berkey, also known as Big Peter. This line goes all the way back to Leonard Burgi, from the Swiss/French border. Big Peter was also a Dunkard minister, who broke rank by preaching in English, rather than German. For reasons that I dont know, when my ggrandfather Peter Berkey moved to Muncie,Indiana in the 1870s, his name changed to Burkey. He did not stay in the Dunkard religion. There are many Peter Berkey/Burkeys in PA so it can be challenging at times. There is a very good on-line database that has all the members from the Berkey book in it. I think it's called Kidron. Check my other messages as i have posted it in either Berkey or Burkey message boards. If you want to find everything yourself , then dont look at this database and spoil all your fun. It has about 5000 Berkeys, 3000 Burkeys and a 1000 or so other spellings as well as a lot of other PA families. Most likely the answers you are seeking are in there. I am typing the above from memory so if something is out of place, let me know and I will dig out my notes. Bye Thanks for your interest. I will check out your two web sites.

If your family was a “Dunkard” before 1908 the name of the denomination was German Baptist Brethren and in 1908 it was changed to Church of the Brethren (there are A LOT in Pennsylvania). In 1926 a small conservative group left the church and still call themselves the Dunkard Brethren. Here’s a good site for the history and other links http://www.cob-net.org/ The Church of the Brethren does have a genealogy group. http://www.brethren.org./genbd/bhla/FoBG.html I am Church of the Brethren, but have not linking my ancestry to the church, yet. Where is your Peter Burkey from in Pennsylvania? I am not very far in my research, maybe my Burkeys were Church of the Brethren in Pennsylvania. Good luck in your search.
