The schoolcrafts marrying Indian "princesses" goes all the way back to Henry Rowe Schoolcraft and his brother James (came from Scotland) marrying native sisters of descendants of the Johnson's of New York, then locating in Michigan as Indian Agents per the records of the Schoolcraft College there. I just recently got in contact with Albert Burkey (our cousin). He says he was told that when our family came from Germany with the name of Schoolcraft, that some of the clan decided to split and change their name to Burkey. Not sure how true this is. But I have found a James Burkey that married Evaline Schoolcraft in WVA. & he also said, That Anna Majestic married a Burkey. That is where the Indian heritage comes from. Minerva was born in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) on Dec. 24, 1918, the daughter of Ray and Lucy "Pearl" (Helsel) Bartholomew, and was raised in Mahoning County. She worked many years at the Strong Manufacturing Co., Ravenna Arsenal, Sebring Container and General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio where everyone knew her as "Mini," where she was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Union No. 1714. Holiday visits were her favorite time, when family would get together to enjoy the best cooking around and stories of the past that laid the ground work for so many in her life. After retiring from GM on April 27, 1987, she enjoyed her home and garden, if she wasn't outside working, something was wrong. As she aged, many medical issues set in and age caused her body to fail. Minerva will be missed so dearly by her family. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy L. Anderson; son Edward S. Burkey; a special niece, Sharon Rolland; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. Minerva is also survived by three half-sisters; a half brother; and two stepdaughters.
