Burke, 91, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y. She was born June 5, 1915, in Ferrisburg the daughter of Frank and Beatrice (Langeway) Bushey. She was a member of American Legion Post 14 in Vergennes and St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. She loved to do sewing, traveling, dancing, gardening and baking. When she lived in Orwell, she belonged to the garden club and the Counsel of Women at St. Paul's Church in Orwell. Predeceased by her husband, Paul W. Burke on Jan. 3, 1967. Gertrude is survived by three children, Larry and Elvera Burke of Casa Grande, Ariz., Janet Senecal of Littleton, N.H., and David and Betty Burke of Lewis, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter and Shirley Bushey of Bristol. She was predeceased by three brothers, George, Hosea and Clarence Bushey; and a sister, Gladys Murphy. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, June 12, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Horace Nye Nursing Home, Park Street, PO Box 127, Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
