Names brothers Josiah, Samuel, John and Benjamin and sisters Hanna Peterson and Betsy Burk. Anyone familiar with this group. I am interested because I have a dead end of John Burks Sr in Kentucky who appears to have a brother named Samuel. They were born around l750 and were guides and "Longhunters" in the area. John had a military background with George Rogers Clark at Fort Jefferson as revealed in a deposition and was there about l780 when the fort was abandoned. There was also a Nicholas Burks at the fort at the same time. John had a wife Elizabeth and several children one married a Rev War soldier named Guy Phelps and another married John McDowell from Kentucky. Another married a widow of Presley Ross (Matilda Covington Ross). and another had a couple of illigitimate children :-) Thanks for any assist Charles Severs Louisville, Ky ==== BURK Mailing List ==== REMINDER ! ! ! Charles, You have my curiosity up. I have a Thomas Burk who was born in either Boone or Woodward County, KY about 1790. I do not have any other info to go back any farther. My Thomas Burk was married to Dorcus Rice and they had 5 children (2 girls & 3 boys)--Marintha (who died young), Emily (m. Enoch Stone), Absolom Graves, Radford (my ggg grandfather), and Ervin. Thomas moved his family from KY to southern IN to the Quincy IL area. Emily remained, while the three brothers moved on: Pittsburg KS, Texas, Portland OR area respectively. I would like to learn more on the Thomas you inquired about--just in case.
