Can you send me the same Burke info that your sending to Carol. In the 1900 census it states that William Burke immigrated in 1849 and in the 1910 census it states that the year was 1851. Because William was born circa 1835, it is highly probable that he came to America (at about age 14) around the time of the great famine with other family members. Unfortunately, I have no information beyond this that gives me any clues as to the port of entry, other family members names, or county of origin. Burke was a popular surname from the county Galway and I do have a feeling that that is where they came from but no proof or information to go on. Would it be possible for you to give more information as to where in Kansas your Burke family settled? Kansas City was pretty much built by the labor of the Irish Catholics and the Irish have a rich heritage here. Perhaps you have found some church records for your Burkes? If we look at the details! ! > maybe there is a connection. The years sound right. William's family was so large (well typical of an Irish Catholic family anyway) that I am very hopeful that I will be able to locate some distant cousins perhaps still in the area. If you don't mind my asking, how was it that you found your Burke's overseas connection? Were you lucky enough to have family records? Unfortunately, it seems that ours did not keep any that I am aware of. I wish I could be of more help but I just don't know anymore. Well, I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for the compliments on my website! > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BURKE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >
