John Burke b. 1738 Fincastle, VA d. 1782 Montgomery Co., VA married 18 Oct 1772, to Mary Cloud b. 18 Oct 1772 prob. in Goshen, Chester Co., PA. Internet postings show John was the son of James Edward Burk b. 1710 in Limerick, Ireland and Mary (Polly) Jane Bane b. 1710 in Goshen, Cheter Co., PA. Does anyone know is this is correct? It does not look right to me. Mary Cloud was the daughter of Jesse Cloud b. 13 Sep 1742 in Chester Co. PA and Mary Allen b. 1750 East Marlborough, Chester Co., PA. Jesse and Mary Allen Cloud had another daughter Jane Cloud b. 2 Jun 1770 prob. in Chester Co., PA. It has been speculated in my family for ages that my 4th great grandmother was Jane Cloud married to Nathaniel Tenpenny and I think that this Jane Cloud may be her. Nathaniel and Jane Cloud Tenpenny had a daughter Christina Tenpenny b. 1810 in Rowan Co., NC. She married Samuel Burk(s) 1824 in Warren Co., TN. Samule Burks and Christina Tenpenny are my 3rd great grandparents. Many years of searching have not revealed the father of Samuel Burk(s) and giving that families tended to move together and cousin often married cousins I think this a lead worth pursuing. Allan, thank you so much. So the John Burk that married Mary Cloud was the son of Benjamin Burk son of James Burk. John and Mary were married 11 Aug 1786 and my Samuel was born in Rowan Co., NC 1799/1800. Which just happens to be were the "disinherited son" James Burk's children were living at the time. My Samuel named his first son John. If Jane Cloud was the sister of Mary Cloud maybe their children married. This is worth a look anyway. Just have to find the children of John Burk and Mary Cloud. Before this over I am going to have data on every Burk that ever lived except the one I am looking for!!
