My ggfather Mathew Burke died in Clinton Co Oh in 1875. Mathews 2nd wife Margaret Luddington (nee Thatcher) had 4 children by Mathew Elliott B Burke, Preston B Burke, Precilla Burke and Minnie Burke. At the time of his death Margaret had 3 of her children by Milton Luddington, living in the household. Delila, Fenton and Symore remained in Clinton Co. Margaret took Percilla and Minnie to live with her father Thomas Thatcher. See: the 1880 Census of Clinton Co. Oh. The 1880 Census of the next co. over Fayette Co listed Elliott and Preston as living in a Reform School. Can some tell me who I can contact regarding this school, also what happened to Preston, Margaret, Minnie and Percilla Burke. What caused this family to break up? I know the poverty at the time might have been part of the problem. Also, what happened to Milton Luddington? why didn't he take his 3 children.
