I have been researching my newly-discovered BURKE line in Sydney, Australia, for about four days and I've already found that my ggg-grandfather, Redmond BURKE, also spelled his surname (or had it spelled) Redmond BOURKE. I can think of numerous ways to spell it -- BERK(E), BIRK(E), BORK(E), BOURK(E), BURK(E) -- which leads to me to wonder: Are there other plausible variations? Which ones are most common? Is there a list on the Web somewhere? It would help a great deal in poking around databases, etc. Oh yeah -- how about the first name Redmond? Are there any common nicknames or alternate spellings for this? I was surprised how many Redmond BURKEs I found in the LDS online database (and none of them appear to be mine).
