Poor Redmond BURKE had very little luck ... probably a convict sent to Australia from somewhere in the British Isles, have no idea where from; ended up in Sydney, where he met Bridget WHELAN sometime around 1843. She was a convict from County Kildare and a Catholic, if that makes any difference.. There seems to be no record of their marriage, but they did have a daughter named MARY on March 21, 1844. But poor Redmond died in 1845, age 35, and Bridget married James SULLIVAN, another convict, in August 1845. Bridget and James took Mary to America in 1849 and they settled in San Francisco. Mary grew up with her SULLIVAN half-siblings (five sisters, one brother), married a fellow from Chicago named Mathias RIEHM, better known as Mott, moved to Virginia City, Nevada, and had eight or nine little Riehms (some of whom died in childhood and so she recycled their names, much to my confusion) before dying at the age of 40 on Dec. 21, 1884, in Reno, Nevada.
