    1. [BURKE] Thomas Uriah Burke b. 1836 in Russell Co., VA
    2. My brick wall begins with my great grandfather, THOMAS URIAH BURKE, born May 9, 1836 in Russell County, VA. (This much comes from his Civil War papers.) I have not been able to tie him to any of the Burkes living in Russell Co. in the 1830 or 1840 census. I have searched the 1850 census records for several states trying to find my Thomas as a 14 year old, hopefully living with his parents, but have had no luck. One lead gave me hope of finding him listed with parents WILLIAM AND DICIE VENCIL BURK(E). William was listed as the son of JAMES BURK AND ANNA ROBINSON BURK. It seems that this James Burk has been a brick wall for many, maybe the James Burk of Burke's Garden. Today I would be delighted to connect my Thomas to William and Dicie. Thomas married Malinda Robbins in 1854 in Benton IA. She died in childbirth. The daughter, Mary Malinda Burke was raised by her material grandparents. After serving in the Civil War, he married Jane Parisho Parker in Springville Mo, in 1870. They had two children, a son, Frances Burke and my grandmother, Effie Burke. They both died in Fannin County, Texas. Zipra Morgan
