She married Michael J. BURKE at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa, SEP 15, 1850. Michael arrived in Dubuque, Iowa, from Ireland, circa 1848. Catharine arrived in Iowa, from Ireland, circa 1836 to early 1840's. This couple left Iowa for Shawnee, Kansas circa 1858/59. Catharine visited family members in Kansas City, Missouri. I'm DESPERATELY looking for the siblings and the parents of Thomas KEANE, KEAN, KANE, b. C. 1839, Ireland; d. DEC 11, 1906, age 67, paralysis. Thomas KEANS (sp) married Honora SCANLON at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO on JAN 11, 1872. Honora KEANE (nee SCANLON), b. abt. SEP 1840, Ireland; died MAR 11, 1913, age 75?, uremia, facial carcinoma, at home, 412 Campbell St., KC/MO. Per 1900 Census, KC/MO, Thomas and Honora had (4) children, (3) living. And per MO/SOS records and U.S. census records, I've found the following: Annie Laurie KEAN, b. NOV. 6, 1872, unk marriage and death Delia M. KEANE, b. FEB 1876, KC/MO; unk marriage; d. OCT 23, 1937, Jackson co/MO Michael Joseph KANE, b. OCT 1, 1877, KC/MO; d. JUL 13, 1966, ?Taylor co., TX?; married Jessie MONAHAN, NOV 10, 1914, Redemption RC, Jackson Co/MO; Michael living at 930 W. 33rd St. KC/MO; Jessie living at Terrace, KC/MO. Michael enlisted in WWI, SEP 12, 1918, non-Vet. He was living at 4226 Locust, KC/MO when he enlisted. I don't know if they had children. Jessie's parents: George H. MONAHAN & Ida S. XXX? I actively use the MO SOS site and HQ census databases searching for clues that may fit with this line. The 1900 census says Thomas KEANE emigrated to US in 1866, 34 years in U.S., and Naturalized. I found some Na records but need to send for them. I've also contacted the Mid-Continent Public Library and was told the records for 1866 may or may not give much pertinent detail on parentage. I still plan to order the record. Basically, I'm looking for familial connections between the MARTIN & KEANE surnames in Jackson county, Missouri. Both of these lines are from Ireland. I don't know for sure if their is a tie. I'm going by the 1904 obit of Catharine that was published in the Olathe Register, Johnson county, Kansas on DEC. 2, 1904 which says: "... her niece ..." "Mrs. BURKE at the time was on her way to mass at Holy Rosary Church which is located only one and one-half blocks from the home of her niece Mrs. Thos. KEANE, with whom she was visiting, and when the accident occurred she was not 100 feet from the house." I'm in the process of buying my own microfilms for early newspapers for Jackson and Dubuque counties, Iowa; Johnson county, Kansas; and, Jackson county, Missouri. The local gossip should help me locate data, but in the mean time, I would love to find others who are searching the early KEANE line in Missouri. I appreciate any help. Thank you. Kansas City Star (Missouri), November 21, 1904, p. 4 AGED WOMAN HIT BY A CAR ------------ MRS. KATHERINE BURKE FATALLY HURT WHILE GOING TO MASS. ------------- The Fog This Morning Hid an Electric Park Car From View on East Fifth Street ---Prayed as She Waited for Death. ------------- "While on her way to attend mass at the Holy Rosary church, Missouri avenue and Campbell streets, about 8 o'clock this morning, Mrs. Katherine BURKE, 76 years old, who lived with her son, Joseph BURKE, a farmer about twelve miles south of Kansas City, Kas., was struck by an east bound Electric park car at Fifth and Campbell streets. She received injuries which resulted in her death three hours later. Mrs. Burke's right leg was broken in three places, her left leg broken twice and she received bruises about the body and head. The car which struck Mrs. Burke was equipped with an old style fender. She was removed in the police ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital, where she died. Mrs. Burke came here from her home in the country to visit the family of Thomas KEANE at 412 Campbell street. There was a heavy fog of mist and smoke in the north part of the city this morning and it screened the street car from Mrs. Burke's view. She was crossing the tracks when the car came suddenly out of the fog. It struck her before she realized her danger. Spectators said that the wheels of the car did not strike the woman. Her body passed under the fender and the motorman stopped the car. She was unconscious when taken from beneath the car, but regained consciousness before reaching the hospital. She realized that she was mortally injured and prayed while a surgeon was caring for her." Kansas City Times (Missouri), November 22, 1904, p. 2 "Mrs. Burke's Body Sent to Shawnee, Kas. The body of Mrs. Katherine BURKE, an aged woman who was struck by a street car yesterday morning at Fifth and Campbell streets, and died later at St. Joseph's hospital, was sent yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, from O'Donnell's undertaking rooms to her home near Shawnee, Kas."
