Hi Everyone, I have just been given the opportunity to go to Ireland in June! I can't believe it!! However, before I go I need to find out more information about my family so that I can hopefully know enough to get further information while there. My g-grandmother is Mary Burke. She was born July 25, 1866 in Ireland. My Mom's sisters could not agree which county she was born in. I have heard County Clare, Limerick or Cork. Mary Burke married Alexander Rich November 18, 1889 so I only find her as a Rich in the 1900 census. Mary's parents were James and Delia Burke. I know this from a copy of her marriage license where her parents names are listed. All of the various census state she came over in 1880. She would have been 13 or 14 years old. I also have heard that she had a brother James and that Mary came over at least twice from Ireland. Some of my big issues: I have found a New York Passenger Lists from May 17, 1880 showing Joseph Burke age 15, Mary Burke age 13, James Burke age 11 and Catherine Burke age 9. Ship is the City of Richmond. Port of Departure Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland. I also have a New York Passenger List for Mary Burke arriving May 6, 1887, age 21 (which would be correct for being born in 1866), born in Ireland. The person listed directly beneath her is Augustia Burke age 18, born abt. 1869. What is interesting about this Ship log is that the people are listed as coming from Ireland County Clare. QUESTION: How do I KNOW that this is my family? And, if indeed it is, how then would I go about getting information about her birth in County Clare? Any help would be fantastic. I am a real novice when it comes to foreign born relatives and how to research that data. thanks for reading this.
