    1. Burke-Baker-Hayden, Wrexham, North Wales- Windsor, Ontario, Canada
    2. Tami & Bill Clark
    3. This is just a stab in the dark, I've recently received information about 3 children my great grandfather's sister had in North Wales in the early part of the 20th century. She apparently died, their father remarried, had 2 more children and he and his second wife and all 5 children emigrated to Windsor, Ontario, Canada on the Cunard steamer Letitia, around July 18, 1925. My great grandfather's sister was named Bridget Hayden, the father of the children was Francis Joseph Burke, born 1880 in Wrexham, North Wales. The 3 children of this union were all born in Wrexham, North Wales; Richard Michael Burke born June 17, 1910; Cecilia Mary Burke born June 23, 1911 and Francis Joseph Burke Jr., born Dec. 27, 1913. Francis had 2 more children with Clarissa Mary Baker, Raymond John Burke born July 8, 1919 and Peter Alphonsus Burke born Sept 10, 1920, both also born in Wrexham, North Wales. All but Cecilia Burke married, they apparently all stayed in the Windsor area, all are now dead. I am hoping to find any descendants of any of these children, I don't know if the older 3 ever knew of their mothers maiden name, or her family's past. My great grandfather and 2 other siblings came to Canada as British Home children in 1883, Bridget Hayden was only 3 years old and remained in Liverpool with an aunt. I live in Eastern Ontario in the 1000 Islands area, where my great grandfather lived, his brother was in the Toronto area where most of his descendents remain and their sister who immigrated to Canada with them, wound up in Chesaning, Michigan and some of her descendants live in Detroit, which would be ironic to have had these 3 children so close to their own family and not to have known it. If anyone can help me, point me in the direction of finding any genealogical resources in the Essex area, I've tried and can't get anywhere on the Internet, such as historical societies, libraries, cemetaries, etc., I would most appreciate it. Brigdet is my brick wall, I hope to finally get through that wall and find out what really did happen to her. Thank you, Tami

Surnames: BURKE, LANE, THOMPSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RkG.2ACEB/3022 Message Board Post: My husband's great-grandparents, Nathan C.F. Lane and his wife Ellen (Thompson) Lane, and their son N.C.F. Lane were living in the household of the Rev. William Burke and his wife, Mary Burke, in Cincinnati in the 1850 census. Also living in the household were three adopted daughters of William Burke: Caroline, Catharine, and Mary. Was Mary Burke their adoptive mother or were they adopted by William's first wife, Rachel (Cooper) Burke? William Burke and Mrs. Mary Lane were married in Cincinnati, Ohio on 19 Aug 1842. We think that Mrs. Mary Burke is the mother of Nathan C.F. Lane, but have been unable to find any proof. Is anyone researching this Lane family? We are quite anxious to find the maiden name of Nathan's mother and the first name of Nathan's father.

    3. Karen- My CATHERINE (BURKE/BOURKE) SULLIVAN is my "brick wall". Various records, baptisms, confirmations, etc. at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Grand Rapids, Kent Co. MI. list her maiden name as HALLINAN, HOLLAND,HOLINAN, HOLLORAN. Catherine's death record, State of Michigan, Jackson County, lists her father as [---?---] BURKE, and her mother as [---?---] HOLMAN. I have not located a marriage record for Catherine to GEORGE SULLIVAN so I don't know when or where they were married. George SULLIVAN, his wife Catherine, and 3 of their children: James J., Patrick H. & Mary Ann, are listed on the 1880 Fed. Census in Grand Rapids, Kent Co. MI. On the Kent Co. MI. 1894 STATE Census George & Catherine state that they have resided in the U.S. and in MI. for 20 yrs. They may have come thru Canada. I have a photo of a soldier in a World War I army uniform and written on the back is: MATTHEW BURKE. A Matthew Burke did enlist in the army in Detroit, MI. during the 1st.World War. Another interesting fact is that my Great Aunt, Sophronia COTHRELL, married Jack DONOHUE/DONOGHUE, who was from Canada. Perhaps we will find a connection. I have a Phebe Burke in Roane Co, TN mentioned in Robert Burke's will probated Oct 1839 - believe this is her father as he calls her daughter. He does not mention a wife, so assume she is already dead. Have also found the marriage of Robert Burke to Rebekah Horton 9 Dec 1802. Because of the age of his first son, Robert (born 1790-1800), am assuming that Rebekah was a 2nd wife. Was Phebe Hartley a 3rd who was already dead before her husband wrote his will in 1838? The "daughter" Phebe was born 1811. She would have to be Rebekah's daughter. Is the name Phebe for both just coincidence? Are these marriages not all to the same Robert Burke? There seems to be only 2 distinct Burke families in Roane county, TN at this time period. Please help if you can!

    1. Seeking info on Susan Gratia BURKE b VT, m IN (Jacob Huntington), d WA; father b Vermont, mother b N.H.
    2. zoomurray
    3. Looking for references/sources that would give me some info on Susan'ssiblings and parents. Susan Gratia BURKE (b ~1809 USA; m 1836 Jacob HUNTINGTON (b 1813 NY, d 1898 WA)In 1850 the US Census indicates that she was 41yr, living inConnersville, Fayette Co, IN with spouse (Jacob 37yr, born NY), 4 kids(Eliza 13yr, Livonia 11yr, Hannah J 9, Henry VN 1 month), and an olderfemale {Martha Ellis Huntington 75 yr, mother-in-law?}. It listedSusan as having been born in Vermont. The 1860 US Census has the family living in Cowlitz Co, WA. Susan islist as 50 yr, born in Vermont. She is listed with her husband (Jacob48 yr, b NY), and born in Indiana: Livona 21, Hannah 19, Henry 10. The 1870 US Census has family still in Cowlitz Co, WA. It lists Susan(60 yr, b. Vermont), Jacob (57 yr, b. NY), Henry (20yr, b. Indiana), Martha (12yr, b. WA Terr.), Harriet (16yr, (b. WA Terr.). In 1880 US census the family lived in Cowlitz Co, WA It lists familyhead, Jacob (67yr, b. NY, father b. Ver, mother b. Mass.) {{Note,Huntington Family History list Jacob's father's birthplace as CT, andmarriage place as Vermont}}; his wife Susan ( 71yr, b. Ver., fatherborn Ver., mother born NH). Living in the following household is{their son} Henry (30yr, b. Ind., father b. NY, mother b. Ver); hiswife, Fannie (30yr, b. Wis., father and mother b. England), andchildren: Gratia (5yr), Luther (3yr), Florence (2yr) & Jacob (8months) – all born Wash., father b. Ind., mother b. Wis. Also in the 1880 US census found daughter, Eliza (married to CharlesThatcher) in Lewiston, Nex Perce, Idaho territory. It lists NH as thebirth state of Eliza's mother. Daughter Livonia was found (married toJohn Lyon) in Seattle, WA. It list the birth state of her mother asVermont (but father's birth state as Ohio instead of NY). Anddaughter Hannah Jane (married to Noyes Smith) in Cowlitz Co, WA. Itlists Ver. as the birth state of Hannah's mother. Susan Gratia (Burke) Huntington is reported to have died in CastleRock, Cowlitz Co, WA in May 1883 (Huntington Family History). Andaccording to 1880 US census, her father was born in Vermont and hermother was born in New Hampshire. Someone on Ancestry's One World Tree has put Susan Tyner (b May 1811Greenfield, IN; m. 24 Dec 1848; d. 7 Aug 1890) as the second wife ofJacob Huntington. This doesn't seem to match the census data for thefamily, as the Susan, wife of Jacob Huntington is listed as havingbeen born in Vermont (NOT Indiana) in the US Census for 1850(Connersville, Fayette Co, Indiana), 1860 (Montecello P.O., CowlitzCo, Washington), 1870 (Vancouver P.O., Cowlitz Co, WA), 1880 (CowlitzCo, WA). Also the ages listed for Susan Huntington were: 41 (1950),50 (1860), 60 (180), and 71 (1880), which matches Susan Burke's birthyear of 1809, better than Susan Tyner's of 1811. However, withoutprimary sources for births, this could be circular reasoning. The birth state of the mother of Jacob Huntington's children seems"muddy" – not always the same. Eliza Wesleyette (Huntington) & Charles A. Thatcher – Lewiston, NezPerce Co, IdahoLivonia Miranda (Huntington) & John M. Lyon – Seattle, King Co, WashingtonHannah Jane (Huntington) & Noyes H. Smith – Castle Rock, Cowlitz Co, WashingtonFannie (Bratton) & Henry Van Norman Huntington - Arkansas/Castle Rock,Cowlitz Co, Washington 1850* 1860* 1870* 1880 1900 1910 1920Eliza's father: NY NY NY NY NY un ?? mother: VT VT VT NH NH un ??
