HI my GGrandfather was Patrick Burke b. abt 1846 in Ireland, unknown county. His father was Thomas Burke. I am stuck there! I was wondering if you know of any other children of Thomas? Patrick's son Martin,my Grandfather, came to Louisville, Ky in 1909. Some of his sister were already there. He also had a half brother, Tom who was there too. I thought Tom went to Cincinnati before going to Louisville. I also have another Burke family in Louisville who is supposed to be related but I haven't quite found out how. Father was Patrick and his father was also Thomas! It's frustrating when they all have the same name!

I would like to find out if the connection between the Burkes and Philbins (noted in many books and articles) are true. My cousins results although interesting weren't very conclusive. It appears that the Philbins were in Ireland longer that 29 generations. However the closest family matches in the study were to persons with Irish names but 29 generations back. It would be really helpful if more Philbin males added their DNA to the study. http://www.familytreedna.com My brother has submitted his DNA to the National geographic genographic study... that study showed the movement of our ancestors from East Africa to Asia on to Europe and then to Ireland. A grist-mill belonging to L. W. and C. Diffendorf, of this place, was totally destroyed by fire last night. Loss about $11,000; insured for $5,000. A dwelling near by, belonging to J. D. Burke, was badly damaged. March 30, 1876: R. A. Clogher, of Utica, proprietor of the Asoragan Woolen Mills at Little Falls, suspended operations yesterday owing to the depression of the market. It will throw quite a large number of hands out of employment. When he reopened the mill, he was promised aid from Little Falls capitalists, but it is thought that the collapse of Burke & Hely's Bank deprived him of this support. The Black Horse stands at the corner of Montgomery and William Streets, so it was most desirably located. Michael Rawlins, at that time proprietor of Tice's, bought the lot in 1778, and probably built and first conducted the tavern. In 1793, it was bought and became popular as "Jimmie Burke's Place," its house and barn often being filled to overflowing when court was in session, for it was on the main road from Montgomery (then Tryon) county to Johnstown. Probably Sir William Johnson often stopped here, and many a colonial ball was given within its walls.
