    1. [BURGOYNE] Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [BURGOYNE] Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. I just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim "Pops" Jackson

    1. [BURGOYNE] Re burgoynes in norrth andd spelling variations of the name
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Anne_Burgoyne1 Surnames: Burgoyne Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burgoyne/175/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are a good few variations of ghe sspelling as with many names over the years the spellings were more to do with offical record recorders censes being filled out not by common people as many could not write. Add in dialect of the person who spoke the name and the one writing it down then the fact both would ot know the correct spelling. The name as I have traced back to the 800s was from france and recorded here 1st as de burgoyne the de was dropped as time passed but again they got different spelling of the burgoyne name the name would most likely have originated to a place or area in the 1st place or even to a owner of an area a bit like clans in scotland other surnames ome about through the job they did i.e butcher baker etc hope this helps i have in my search found burgoynes in north east england too Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was born in Maryland in Nov. 1816. He had a family but his wife had an affair so he left town and wound up in St. Louis as David Nathan Burgoyne with a new wife and children. Its all in my tree on Ancestry.com. I am interested in the part about him being in Ohio, if you could fill me in on that. Much obliged!
