    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: fireftr320 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burel/30.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It appears there was a Samuel I. Burel (b. 1829, d. 20 Dec 1895) and a Samuel J. Burell (b. 30 Nov 1828, d. 16 Jan 1865 in Cassville, Bartow, GA) (spelling of Burel changed by generation it seemed). Strange, but both are listed as children of Louis Burel and Sarah Margaret Jenkins. I am a direct descendant of Samuel J. Burell, by Samuel J.- John Coda Burel- Roe Gus Burell (some records spelled "Burrel")- Hermon Burell. I am having trouble finding where Samuel J. Burell is buried. I believe that he enlisted in the 41st GA Infantry in either 1861 or 1862, which later merged with the 42nd GA Infantry. I also have records that possibly show where he was captured and taken prisoner of war in Vicksburg, MS on July 4, 1863. Interesting to note that he died in Cassville, Bartow, GA in Jan of 1865, just about 2 months after Cassville was burned by a division of Sherman's Army. I have read where everything except the churches and 3 homes were burned in the entire town. I know that there were as many as eight hospitals in Cassville around that time, but most were closed just prior to Cassville's burning. I saw a post in a forum somewhere where someone believed that he died of disease (which so many did). There is a Civil War cemetery in Cassville where many of the soldiers who died in the hospitals there were buried. Many of the graves are unmarked, but I am planning on going there to take a look for myself. If anyone has any information to add or corrections on this information, I would greatly appreciate it. 3. I found?most of my information on ancestry.com about 4 years ago and a book named "The History of Auburn and Carl".? The book can be found in the Auburn, GA library, I think.? My family received a copy because our family line is in the book.? I haven't looked at this stuff in a while.? There are also a few cemeteries where Burel's are buried that I have visited. But it's only a name and most likely you have been absorbed by the Borg-like Scots-Irish that settled the region and married everything in sight. To really get a picture of what happened in those days you may want to research the populations that settled the region as our ancestor did his best to make a genetic contribution. He was a doctor after all and quite aware of the biological consequences of his messin' around. In the larger picture there is the Pirkle family, and others along with the Burels. It's how all these families converge that's makes for the big picture. "I know that Antione Burel was Gen. Lafayette's physician...I know that he never learned to speak English very well, drank, and had a temper. I also inherited a shotgun from the Burel side." That statement pretty much describes Burel men to this day. Hold on to that shotgun because a Burel will try to steal it back. BTW...do you have an address? Please note: If you find this post ain't funny then you may be more of a Burel than a Pirkle. Burels don't got no sense of humor. 2. Louis' father was Jean Baptiste Elzeard Burel. He shortened it to John Burel. He was born 1 Nov 1757 in Ollioules, France. He married Patience Hannah Bird. They haad 6 children: Louis Burel, 25 June 1789 to Jan 1872: James P Burel, born c.1790, died c.1863: Thomas Burel born 1788, dien 1878 in Vicksburg, Miss: John Burel, born c.1808, died 16 Sept, 1844: Betsy Burel no dates. It could be that the descendants of any of these would be kin, regardless of how the name is spelled. People used to spell any way they wanted to, and the census takers spelled by the way people pronounced their name. Hope this helps you. 3. Ms. Estes. Can you tell me who the father of LOUIS BUREL that married SARAH MARGARET JENKINS? I have them coming from HOG MOUNTAIN, Gwinett County, Ga. I know that they connect down the line to my family but how not sure. I descend from Huldah Kansas Burrell, her father was BRIGHT RUSSELL BURRELL and his father MARK BURRELL, then WALTER BURRELL....although they spell it different, I believe they are the same clan.
