He is known to most of us as William Jr. He is the son of William Burch and Mary Ann (some say Lawrence). He was born on the Haw River which lies somewhere along Guilford county and never reaches the northwest corner of the state where he ended up as a young man. He married first Morning (or Mourning) Harris sometime before 1799. He married Elizabeth Ritter on Apr 2, 1812. He left home and joined the Revolution as a teenager and there is a pension record for him under the spelling of Berch.
