My name is Jimmy Rosamond and my grandmother was a Burch from Texas. I know that they had connections in Louisiana, unfortunately I don't have your grandfather in my database. FYI, there appear to have been two lines of the Burch family in Texas, one descended from Valentine Burch, who was prominent in the battle for Texas independence from Mexico; and another line descended from a whole line of Burches from around Pulaski County, GA. Anyway, Here is some information I have on Edward W Burch. There is an Edward W Burch listed in the Social Security Death Index. SS# 458-26-7862, b. 4 Dec 1923, d. 15 Dec 1998, last residence zip code 75966, Newton, Newton County, Texas. If this is your grandfather, you should request a copy of his Social Security application via the Freedom of Information Act. This should give the names of his parents. If you have never done this before, I've pated the text below of a sample letter from the ancestry.com site. ----------------Sample letter----------- Social Security Administration Office of Earnings Operations FOIA Workgroup 300 N. I am requesting a (circle one: SS-5 copy OR Numident printout) Included is a check for $______ made out to the Social Security Administration to cover any administrative costs required by this request. Please respond to my request upon receipt of this initial correspondence. Thank you for your attention and assistance. Sincerely, Insert Your Address: Insert Your Daytime Phone Number: ------------- End Sample Letter ---------- Ther is another record for Edward W Burch in the WW II enlistments. This Edward is showing born in 1923 in Louisiana, enlisted in Houston, 12 Jan 1944, rank Private, grammar school education, civil occupation "Tracktor Driver." Military records can be obtained from the National Records and Archives Administration (NARA). Form can be had from the NARA website. Last and shakiest record is the 1930 census. There is a Walter E Burch (census taker may have reversed his given and middle name) in Precint 4, Newton, Texas. Since the census date is officially in the middle of the year, if this is your grandfather, he wouldn't have been 7 until December, hence the younger age. He is living with the family of Charlie Herren age 23, and is shown as Charlie Herren's stepson. Wife's name is Lillie Herren age 24 who is listed as Walter E's mother. Also living in the household is Anne Harring, age 60. Keep us posted on your research and best of luck.
