In 1778 he took the Oath of Allegiance in Island Creek District of Granville Co., N.C. By 1784 he was a taxable in St. Luke's District of Caswell Co., N.C. In 1797 he was Administrator of the estate of John Shearman. In 1799 he used an agent to sell land he owned in Russell Co., Va., the deed giving no evidence how he came to own this property. William Dollarhide was his agent for the sale. Pemberton died in 1802 in Caswell Co.,N.C. Did he have children? >> Hello Gary, I am most interested in your Burch connections. My ancestor, John Fox, of Person County, NC was apprenticed to a Phillip Burch of Person County, NC; John's brother, William, was apprenticed to a Henry Burch, also of Person. I have assumed that the two Burch men were brothers. Henry was married to an Elizabeth Dollarhide, as I recall, and eventually moved westward. Phillip was married to Mary "Polly" Hargis, daughter of Shadrack Hargis of Caswell County, NC, the part that was later changed to Person. As far as I can determine, Phillip and his wife had no children, at least who survived to adulthood. A Janey Burch was married to a John Crisp, and had a son named Richard Crisp, who served as bondsman when William Fox married in 1820. I have assumed that Janey was perhaps a sister to Henry and Phillip, as she seemed to be of the same generation. According to my research, In Deed Book D Person County, page 243, John Miles of Caswell County deeded to Nicholas Burch, for $80, 53 1/2 acres on Double Creek of Hico adjacent to Goodrich Jones, Adam McNealy, James McMurry, Herndon Harrel, Robert Huston - said tract where Wm. E. Fox formerly lived and sale ordered by court. 29 November 1809, Wit: Baylor Burch, Daniel Carney, Joshua Carney. You will note that this sale involved the land of my ancestor, William Eires Fox, father to John Fox who was apprenticed to Phillip Burch. I feel that Nicholas, Baylor, Phillip, Henry, and Janey were part of the same family, perhaps sibilings. I would very much appreciate any assistance which you might be able to provide, as I consider Phillip to be very much a part of my John Fox's family, as John lived with them or near them even after Phillip had died. John married a niece of Mary Hargis Burch, Lucy Hudgins, whose mother was Nancy Hargis Hudgins, wife of Thomas Hudgins, of Person County, NC. A researcher of at least one Burch line of Caswell County, NC, was Burch Blaylock, clerk of court for Caswell County for many years, during the 1950's to the 1980's. Mr. Blaylock collected all kinds of data during his tenure, and pasted items into scrapbooks which are a wealth of genealogical data for the family researcher. These are housed in the Clerk of Court's Office in Caswell County, NC. I will look foward to hearing from you, and from any Burch researchers who are following any of the line which you seem to be following. Best regards, John Fox Winston Salem, NC
