His results are here (S-4): http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/burch/results.html His lineage is listed here: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/burch/pats.html The two match on 33 of 37 markers, with one of those being a 2 step mismatch. A distance of 5 on 37 markers is considered "possibly related." http://www.familytreedna.com/GDRules_37.html All four markers that don't match are "fast" moving markers of 385b, 464d, CDYa and CDYb. IF John BURCH and Oliver BURCH are related, there have probably been mutations in both lines from the common ancestor between them. IF so, one would be marker 464d, where the John descendant is 19, and the Oliver descendant is 17. IF they are related, the common BURCH ancestor was probably 18 for this marker, and both lines mutated one marker in different directions. If one of the lines also mutated on 2 of the other mismatched markers, and the other line on 1 of the mismatched markers, then either the John descendant would be 3 markers off (34/37) from the common ancestor and the Oliver descendant 2 markers off (35/37), or the other way around. In either case, a match of 34/37 or 35/37 is considered related. See also the discussion of a distance for both 4 and 5 at: http://www.familytreedna.com/GDRules_37.html To find out if they are related, other direct line male descendants of both John and Oliver would need to test to find where any mutations may have occurred. If you are a male BURCH descended from either line, you may want to consider DNA testing.
