    3. I have the following Valentine I. Burch. Descendants of Samuel Lewis Burch Generation No. 1 1. SAMUEL LEWIS5 BURCH (EDWARD4, EDWARD3, JUSTINIAN2, OLIVER1) was born 09 May 1782 in , Prince George, MD, and died Abt. 1850. He married DOROTHEA BROWN 23 May 1812 in , Nelson, KY. Notes for SAMUAL LEWIS BURCH: Dale I have tried to obtain information to verify all of the children of Samuel Lewis Burch & ?Catherine? Dorothea Brown, but have found baptism records for only two of their children. The other children are figured based on "Old Burch Papers", that I am fortunate to own, and my grandmother's research. Images of some of these old papers have been submitted to the Bullitt Co., KY Archives, for all to view. You probably know that Marilu Burch Smallwood, wrote two books about the Burch Family. In her Vol. II, my grandmother, and a cousin, submitted information. I have since determined that a small bit, but surely not all, of the information submitted pertaining to my particular line that came to TX, has errors. My grandmother wrote directly into her copy of the Vol. II Burch book, where she felt there was an error. Years ago, Mary Frances Wagner of Fern Creek, KY, wrote to my grandmother who has died in 1967, and I responded to Mrs. Wagner's letter, and she supplied me with some information from her research of the Burch family. 1799 Washington Co., KY tax list shows: May 25 Edward Burch, 1 male over 21, 1 horse, and 1800 Washington Co., KY tax list shows: Ann Burch, widow, 1 male 16/21 - 2 horses- 25 acres W. Cartwright Creek. 1802 - 1804 Ann Burch & son Samuel are still in Washington Co., KY, then in 1806, they are in Bullitt Co., KY. [This tax info from Mrs. Wagner] In 1807, Samuel Lewis Burch & Jesse Burch, purchased slaves from Thomas Jenkins of Prince George Co., MD, and in 1808, Jesse Burch, signed his interest over to Samuel Lewis Burch. Not sure if Jesse Burch was a brother, or, an older relative who might have been needed to help make the sale. In 1808, Samuel Burch bought land from Henry Crist, and in 1812, Samuel Burch married Dorothea Brown, dau. of Nicholas Brown, with a Lewis Brown also signing. It looks like Samuel Lewis Burch, had a brother Edward Burch, and a brother Elixious Burch, but I'm not able to learn much about then. Samuel had a sister named Eleanor, who married Nicholas Mudd, and she died after two children were born, and Nicholas Mudd, married 2nd, Eleanor Ferguson. It seems that Samuel Lewis Burch's lands were part in Bullitt Co., and part in Nelson Co., KY. On Oct 21, 1835, her sold 189 acres on the South bank of West Fork of Coxes Creek, to John H. Downs, which was in Bullitt Co., and in Oct ? 1835, he sold 38 1/4 acres that was in Nelson Co., KY, to Benedict Blandford. This land sale is one of the reason that I place the Burch family in TX, and not at an earlier date as suggested by others. Of course it is possible that members of the Burch family made a trip to TX at an earlier date, just to check out the living situations. In San Augustine, TX, there are some documents that support early settlers to TX, and an agent for Samuel Burch, states that Samuel Burch came to TX in January of 1836. Samuel Lewis Burch, had two sons, Valentine Ignatius Burch and James Burch, who joined the Texas cause, and served under Capt. Kimbro, during the time of the Battle of San Jacinto, which was the deciding battle in which TX gained independence from Mexico. A definite date of death for Samuel Lewis Burch, has not been established, but we think, 1850. Samuel & his wife Dorothea Brown Burch, had purchased a lot in the town of Moscow, Polk Co., TX, and when Dorothea sold the land in 1857, it was necessary for her children to sign, as Samuel was deceased. >From this deed, one is able to figure the names of the children of Samuel Lewis & Dorothea Brown Burch. Either the images or a transcription of some of these records that I have mentioned, can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/bullitt/toc.html Sallie Cannon SACANNON@prodigy.net More About SAMUAL LEWIS BURCH: Residence: 1820, Cox Creek, Bullitt, KY Children of SAMUAL BURCH and DOROTHEA BROWN are: i. <UNNAMED>6. ii. Notes for DOROTHEA BURCH: Re: DOROTHEA BURCH - It is believed that there may have been a daughter of Samuel Lewis and Dorothea Brown Burch, named Eleanor, or Dorothea Eleanor, who died 06-29-184? (part of bible page missing). Eleanor, is listed on a blank bible page, which also lists the birth dates of Samuel and Dorothy Burch. >From Miss Ruth Peebles, great-great-granddaughter of Samuel Lewis and Dorothea Brown Burch: "Back in the 1940's, my sister, Nell Wilkerson, interviewed a great- aunt, Ella Cochran Green, dau.-in-law of Matilda Burch Green, and was told this story. When the Burches moved from San Augustine to Greenville (Moscow) one of their daughters, about 12 years of age, died of an unidentified fever. She was buried in the woods beside the trail. She lived at Colita, Moscow, and Livingston, and I believe the story to be true." >From Sallie Cannon Research ix. SAMUEL LEWIS BURCH, JR., b. 12 Jul 1831, Near Bardstown, , KY; d. 12 Jan 1872; m.
