Author: franciskeenan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burch/2334.4.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you have not already done so, I recommend a search of the Maryland Archives for a record of the marriage of Thomas Burch to a woman with the surname CLARK. This respository has excellent records. If you cannot visit the Maryland Archives, I recommend that you commission a professional genealogist familiar with those archives and who lives nearby and also who is familiar with the system there to undertake such a search for you. If you are unable to find such a person, I can recommend one. If you decide to do this, you will be asked to supply as much information as you have about Thomas Burch for the benefit of the professional genealogist and to assist the search. No guarantees can be made that anything would be found. But, since Thomas Burch had exited the military in 1776 and his first child was born in Prince George's County, Md., that seems to be the place to begin in a quest to learn about the woman named Clark. It seemed likely that Thomas probably married in Maryla! nd and did not go to Hardy County, Virginia, until later. It was generally believed though not proven that some Burches, including Thomas, went to Hardy County, VA, from Prince George's County, MD, in the late 1700s. This was in a Hardy County history book published in 1990. But, the book had many errors in it as do most such county histories.
