She was born in Indianapolis, and was a native of Whiting, Ind. She graduated from high school and attended business school there before marrying Glenn Carlton Burch in 1945. Her husband's large and loving family always made her feel loved and accepted, and they were a great blessing to her. She and Carl moved to Barstow, Calif., in 1946, the first in the family to make the trek "Out West". She worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Barstow Furniture then as the bookkeeper for Happy Wanderer Travel until her retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Santa Fe Friendship Club. She was also a member of a Bunco Club she dearly loved. She was active in her church, St Joseph Catholic Church until health issues prevented her attending. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Carl; her devoted daughter, Judith Ann Short; and her sister, Mary. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and John Speakman of Bishop, Calif.; step-daughter, Jean Boyer and family of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Sarah, Walker, and Grace Speakman, and Carolle, Butch, Ernie, Jacob and Michael Iden; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ruth loved and sacrificed for her family above all things. She had a truly sweet spirit and graciousness that will not be forgotten. A Catholic Mass will be said in her honor. Arrangements are by Mead Mortuary, 760-256-5671. www.meadmortuary.com Published in the Daily Press on June 27, 2010 (Victorville, San Bernardino, CA) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
