BATTLE CREEK ENTERPRISE Battle Creek, NE 31 July 1947 FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR LINCOLN E. BURCH - - - - - - - - - Elder S. Flanagan, Old Friend of Family, in charge - - - - - - - - - Another old resident of Battle Creek has answered the call, Lincoln E. Burch, 81, who died Sunday at his home on the east Main street road. Though he had been ill for some time his death at this time was unexpected. It is believed the excessively hot weather had much to do with hastening the end. His age at death was 81 years, 7 months and 8 days. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon with Elder S. Flanagan of Curryville, Mo., an old friend of the family, in charge. Burial was at Union cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry and John Bierman, Chas. Hansen, Walter Scheerger and Brian Flood, Battle Creek, and E. T. Collins, Meadow Grove. Born at Knoxville, Iowa, Mr. Burch came to Battle Creek in 1909. He purchased a farm north of town upon which he lived until recent years. When he retired from the farm he bought residence property just outside of town. In early life he joined the Primitive Baptist church and was active in the organization of the church in Battle Creek. He remained a faithful member until his death. Mr. Burch had married four times. His first wife was Ella Skelton, whom he married in 1885 and who died in 1906. In 1907 he married Dinah Smith and after her death in 1929 he married Maggie Buck in 1930. The third wife died in January, 1946, and in December 1946, he married Mrs. Martha Leach, who survives him. Other survivors are two daughters by his first wife, Mrs. Millie Leach of Kansas City, MO., and Mrs. Lavina Skelton of Idaho Falls, Idaho. One daughter, Mrs. Jessie Keeney, and the only son, Billy Burch, preceded him in death. One brother and a sister, Albinus Burch and Mrs. Jessie Elder, are residents of Oklahoma. There are fourteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.
I don¹t know why I never saw it before.... The MYERS and HARRELLs are infamous for receiving a grandmother¹s maiden name as a middle name, so here¹s my latest thought: Elizabeth T. HARRELL (b.1842 SC), who I know was the granddaughter of Mary Hollingsworth BURCH (b.1799 SC), named her son James Pettigrew MYERS. This lends credence to my theory that Elizabeth¹s parents are not, as I have long thought, James Burch HARRELL (b.1816) and _?_, but Joseph Lewis HARRELL (b.1818) and Mary Ann Elinor PETTIGREW (b.1823 SC)! Confirmations? Disapprovals? General snide remarks? ;) Thanks, Jeff Drake [email protected] -- http://homepage.mac.com/familyhistory (forever under construction)

Hello, everyone! It¹s been a while since I¹ve posted anything on these boards, but I¹m updating my web site and decided I¹d better do a little more research to try and figure out just what¹s going on here. Here¹s the line in question: James HARRELL, the son of Lewis HARRELL Sr. and Sarah PERKINS, was b. in 1790, probably in South Carolina. He married 15 Jan 1815 in SC Mary Hollingsworth (or Hollandsworth) BURCH, b. 19 Aug 1799 in Mt. Croghan, Chesterfield co., SC. They had four children: 1. James Burch HARRELL, b. 21 Nov 1816. 2. Joseph Lewis HARRELL, b. 4 Nov 1818. 3. Elizabeth Thomas HARRELL, b. 13 May 1820 SC. 4. Sarah Ann Perkins HARRELL, b. 11 Feb 1822. So here¹s where it gets complicated: I have one source saying that James Burch HARRELL died as a young child, but family records state that my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth T. HARRELL (b.1 Mar 1842 SC) had an older brother named Joseph HARRELL and a younger sister named Sarah Perkins HARRELL, and that their father, James HARRELL, was the son of Mary H. BURCH, born about 1818. Can anyone put all this together? It seems obvious to me that there are two different families here, each with a Joseph, Elizabeth, and Sarah; however, if James Burch HARRELL died young, does this mean that our family records have a misprint? Is Joseph Lewis HARRELL the father of the latter family? Thanks in advance, Jeff Drake -- http://homepage.mac.com/familyhistory (forever under construction)
I am looking for any and all info on a Quincy Burch/Birch possible lived in Alabama, Georgia or Florida. He married Ann (Annie) E. She was living at home according to the 1910 Holmes Co. Florida Census. By 1920 she is no longer listed with the family. Any help is appreciated. Juanita Register Florida
HI ALL BURCH RESEARCHERS! I am researching two different Burch women, both of them I believe are from Person County, North Carolina. ELIZABETH BURCH (born bet 1812-1822, NC) married GEORGE W. WHITEFIELD on September 30, 1833 in Person Co. They had the following children, all born in North Carolina: ~ ROBERT A. WHITFIELD (born bet. 1834-1835, died August 20, 1862 in Civil War; married Sarah McKissack in/around Gordon Co., GA abt 1857) ~ JOHN G. WHITFIELD (born Nov 1836, died November 16, 1922 in Henry Co., KY; married Rebecca ? in Gordon Co., Ga abt 1859) ~ ROWEN WHITFIELD (born abt 1838, died possibly before 1860 or moved out of Gordon Co.; he's not in 1860 census for Gordon Co., GA though George & Elizabeth, Robert & family, and John & family are) ~ JAMES WHITFIELD (born abt 1847, died probably before 1860; he's also not in 1860 census with George & Elizabeth) The other Burch I'm researching is: MARTHA BURCH (born abt 1810, NC) married THOMPSON MCKISSACK (or McKissick) on October 16, 1828 in Person Co. They had the following children (birth dates omitted due to laziness!): ~ AMERICUS MCKISSACK ~ MALVINA A. MCKISSACK ~ SARAH MCKISSACK (married Robert A. Whitfield - see above) ~ CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS MCKISSACK ~ GEORGE W. MCKISSACK ~ AVONILLA MCKISSACK ~ WILLIAM MCKISSACK I do know that George and Elizabeth Burch Whitfield/Whitefield moved to Gordon Co., Georgia between 1847 -1850. I believe Elizabeth and Martha may be sisters or possibly first cousins and related to the other Burches who moved from Person Co. to Gordon Co., GA. These other Burches were as listed in the 1860 Gordon Co., GA census: ~ABEL BURCH (age 46, b. NC) ~ARCHIBALD BURCH (age 52, b. NC) ~JAMES BURCH (age 80, b. NC) ~JAMES H. BURCH (age 34, b. NC) ~JAMES M. BURCH (age 21, b. NC) ~JESSE BURCH (age 49, b. NC) ~WILLIAM W. BURCH (age 54, b. NC, also shows ??? beside his name as if it may not be Burch; he's in a different town altogether) James H., Abel, and James M. are enumerated right beside each other in that census and show all born in NC. They are all just a few families away from Thompson & Martha Burch McKissick and not far from Jesse Burch. I apologize for the length of this. I feel certain that Elizabeth and Martha may be related. Hoping perhaps someone might have some census information or other info that would indicate them as daughters of one of the Burch men from Person Co., NC. I have searched for hours online trying to find some reference to these women with no luck. I appreciate any clues or info. Thanks, Stacy Cox Shirley, Indiana [email protected]

April 15, 2001 Dear Family and Friends A happy Easter wish for all this morning and Veryl, Randy and I wish for everyone to be well. It is time that we update everyone on our changing situation. In a few days we will be leaving our current residence for a new one in Central Oregon, our Internet service will change also, I don't have a new address for web mail at this time and it may be 30-45 days until we do. Our last day of service will be April 20th until further notice. The following will be our new Postal address effective May 12th. Dale and Veryl Key 52675 Center Dr. LaPine, OR 97739 I will send an updated E-mail address as soon as I get online. We will be busy moving things to storage starting this week, some outdoor items will be moved to LaPine on Wednesday as we have a meeting there that day. We need to make each trip count. If anyone has questions about Genealogy or anything else of importance, I will try and answer them this week. We are looking foreword to our new home; it was built in 1998 and is like new in and out. The outside is Daffodil yellow and white, set back in the pine trees on one flat acre, it has 2 bedrooms and three baths, two car attached garage and a motorhome garage, paved streets and a wonderful well that has tested almost pure, it has a flow rate of 24.5 gallons per minute. I doubt that I will be able to raise much of a garden at the 4500 feet above sea level climate, I will try though. A green house? Maybe. I will try and take pictures on Wednesday and get them out to you before I shut down. All of you genealogists out there, I expect you to keep track of things for me in my absence. Dr William E Burch (04/09/1814 - 02/19/1887) married Susan Calpurnia William (05/11/1832 - 03/21/1912). Seaborn Wright Burch (02/27/1830 - 06/30/1905) married Sarah Ann Willcox (03/04/1839 - 07/02/1908). I believe that their father's name was Littleberry. This in not confirmed. Unproven documentation indicates that Littleberry Burch was married as many as four times. It is also believed that Littleberry's father was Charles Burch. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
