Author: jdrosamond2 Surnames: Rosamond, Burch, Graham, Russell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burch/2190.6/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Alecia. My name is Jimmy Rosamond and my grandmother was a Burch from Texas. I know that they had connections in Louisiana, unfortunately I don't have your grandfather in my database. FYI, there appear to have been two lines of the Burch family in Texas, one descended from Valentine Burch, who was prominent in the battle for Texas independence from Mexico; and another line descended from a whole line of Burches from around Pulaski County, GA. Anyway, Here is some information I have on Edward W Burch. There is an Edward W Burch listed in the Social Security Death Index. SS# 458-26-7862, b. 4 Dec 1923, d. 15 Dec 1998, last residence zip code 75966, Newton, Newton County, Texas. If this is your grandfather, you should request a copy of his Social Security application via the Freedom of Information Act. This should give the names of his parents. If you have never done this before, I've pated the text below of a sample letter from the ancestry.com site. ----------------Sample letter----------- Social Security Administration Office of Earnings Operations FOIA Workgroup 300 N. Greene Street P.O. Box 33022 Baltimore, Maryland 21290 Re: Freedom of Information Act Request Dear Freedom of Information Officer, I am writing this request under the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. Section 552. I hereby request a copy of the SS-5, Application for Social Security Card, or a corresponding NUMIDENT printout (see below) for the following individual: Burch, Edward 458-26-7862 Birth: 4 Dec 1923 Death: 15 Dec 1998 This individual is deceased, having been listed in the Social Security Administration's Death Master File. I understand the fee for this service is $27 for copy of original SS-5 application OR $16 for copy of an abbreviated NUMIDENT printout when the Social Security Number is provided. I am requesting a (circle one: SS-5 copy OR Numident printout) Included is a check for $______ made out to the Social Security Administration to cover any administrative costs required by this request. Please respond to my request upon receipt of this initial correspondence. Thank you for your attention and assistance. Sincerely, Insert Your Address: Insert Your Daytime Phone Number: ------------- End Sample Letter ---------- Ther is another record for Edward W Burch in the WW II enlistments. This Edward is showing born in 1923 in Louisiana, enlisted in Houston, 12 Jan 1944, rank Private, grammar school education, civil occupation "Tracktor Driver." Military records can be obtained from the National Records and Archives Administration (NARA). Form can be had from the NARA website. Last and shakiest record is the 1930 census. There is a Walter E Burch (census taker may have reversed his given and middle name) in Precint 4, Newton, Texas. Since the census date is officially in the middle of the year, if this is your grandfather, he wouldn't have been 7 until December, hence the younger age. He is living with the family of Charlie Herren age 23, and is shown as Charlie Herren's stepson. Wife's name is Lillie Herren age 24 who is listed as Walter E's mother. Also living in the household is Anne Harring, age 60. Keep us posted on your research and best of luck. My BURCH's were in IL, MO, & KS and I recently found evidence to KY and TX. I'm particularly interested in Shephard BURCH and his heritage. I've got quite a bit of info on Shephard and his family 13 children, so I definitely would like to discuss them in greater detail. While I don't have a lot of info on the TX BURCH's, and nothing at all on BURCH's in LA, I would be happy to exchange info. Looking forward to further discussion. 1. [BURCH] Louisa Burch (possibly born before 1780 or 1800 possibly in VT or NY) related to Donnelly
    2. J. Beatty
    3. The death certificate of James Merritt DONNELLY (b 1838 in VT or NY) who died in Oklahoma in 1922 indicated that his parents were John DONNELLY and Louisa BURCH. I have been researching the James Donnelly family and I don't think his mother was Louisa BURCH (I think she was Catharine DUNLAP from Washington Co, NY; lived in Ashland Co/Knox Co OH about 1843-1888; probably in one John Donnelly family in 1840 census of Washington Co, NY). However, there must be a BURCH somewhere in his ancestry. I am having trouble finding evidence of this Louisa Burch, especially since John Donnelly died prior to 1850. Census records of James Donnelly indicated that both his parents were born in VT or NY. I think it's possible that Louisa BURCH was a grandmother to James Donnelly but I am having trouble locating sources. Thank you for any help. Jen

You can all read it on-line by going to your local library and signing on to HeritageQuest where all the pages are posted. It is indexed and there are some pictures. This book focuses mainly on the Burch group that settled in Western New York. There are some errors in the text and more accurate histories can be found in the books by Reeks and Doherty. Author: debro1114 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burch/2178.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Per my last reply I have already found Caroline's parentage. I realize that the Henry Burch family came from New York and have never "concentrated" my efforts in Illinois. But I will point out that Caroline's parents did come to Illinois from NY also and both died there - the same is possible for Henry's parents - or not. Per my original posting on this I stated that Henry and Caroline moved to Illinois between 1842 and 1847. There were many named Henry Burch in NY and this was to assist others in differentiating between them. I responded to your mention of their son James Burch and referenced Illinois and the fact that the last confirmation of him I had was on the 1850 Illinois census and had no other info on him. Right? If so you wouldnt concentrate in Illinois, They moved there, Unless they moved the parents of both sides with them. they would still be NY. They moved to Illinois Before Alice was born. Or are you wanting to fine the Post family? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The 1860 census does not show James living with his parents (again IL). My line is through Henry and Caroline's daughter Alice Jane Burch.
