But I surely have found a lot of clues in her books. I recently purchased the reprint Burch books and there is an index, that makes it a lot easier to locate people in her books. My Burch line starts with- Oliver Burch and Barbara(y) Tennison, to Justinian Burch and Susannah Davis, to Edward Burch I and Anastatia (?Lanham?) to Edward Burch II and Ann Spinks, to Samuel Lewis Burch and Catherine Dorothy Brown. Edward Burch and Ann Spinks Burch, left P.G. Co, MD about 1799 and went to Washington Co., KY, then Samuel L. and Dorothy Brown Burch, owned and lived on lands in Nelson and Bullitt Co., KY. They sold their lands in Oct of 1835 and came to TX. Their son James and Valentine, were in the fight for Texas Independence. James, was my g-g-grandfather. I have the Burch books and they are very good. But there are some errors as well. Mrs Smallwood sometimes linked families together only because of names. One woman was linked to the wrong family, because Mrs Smallwood assumed that as the woman had named her son Nimrod, then her father in law must have been named Nimrod and thus Nimrod Clark was the father of her husband.. It wasn't the case. Mrs Smallwood connected some of the dots wrong and made some bad assumptions. But considering the fact that the only census she would have had access to was the 1850 census. She did darn good!! What Burchs are in your line? Bernice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am not directly related to the Littleberry Burch that is being discussed, however, I wish to ask if you have checked the source: BIRCH, BURCH FAMILY IN GREAT BRITAIN and AMERICA, Vol. II, by Marilu Burch Smallwood? This book has a section on an Alfred Littleberry I (son of Joseph II of Georgia), and on Alfred Littleberry II. Information such as: "Burch Marriage Bonds, Richmond County, Ga...Littleberry Burch and Ann Paton June 21, 1823..." "Rebecca Burch (widow) was appointed June 17, 1813 Guardian of Joel, Seaborn, and Eliza Burch, minor orphans of Charles Burch, deceased." "Littleberry Burch received a headright grant of land in Burke County, Georgia; and L. B. Burch received a headright grant in Burke Co., GA." (this information sent in by John B. Wilson, then Sect. of State of Ga.) There's also a section on "Dr. William E. Burch, Family of Dodge County, Georgis (Son of Littleberry and Grandson of Charles, Revolutionary Soldier)" If you want, I can check more of the book for Littleberry Burch, but I ask that you write me at my email address - scannon@gt.rr.com Thanks, Sallie-TX Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JMason1195 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burch/2258.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Bernice. What you have looks good to me. I looked over the info I had on the Burches and have just a few notes I've gathered, some from previous message board posts which you probably already have. Maybe you have more info om them. Regarding the presence of Charles Burch, brother of Joseph Burch II, in Georgia, I had a note that a Charles Burch founded the Burke County Georgia Rangers in 1781. This Charles Burch would have been too old to be a son of Joseph II. Do you think this could have been his brother and possibly the father of my Littleberry? Whoever posted this said that Charles' brother Edward also belonged to the Rangers but they may have been confusing this Charles with the son of Joseph II. In the 1805 Georgia land lottery, lottery draws were given to three different Charles Burches: Charles, Charles Sr. and Charles Jr. Other Burches given draws were Edward, Gerrard Jr., Jared, John, Joseph, and William. I also had a note that Joseph II reportedly had a total of 23 children by four different wives. I have never seen a list of all 23 children nor the names of all four wives. Perhaps this is a "family legend". That's why I wondered if he could have also had a son named Littleberry, in addition to his son Alfred Littleberry. I believe there was some close connection between my Littleberry Burch and the Wright family. (He's actually not mine, he's my son-in-law's gggg-grandfather). In addition to the use of Wright as Seaborn's middle name, when Seaborn Burch applied for his Civil Was pension in 1900, he named a W. A. Wright of Fulton County, as his power of attorney. A couple of years later he changed his power of attorney to someone else so perhaps W. A. Wright died during that time. Do you have any info in your Wright database on who this may have been and what the connection could have been to Littleberry Burch. I found a record of a marriage on May 15, 1845 in Washington County between Littleberry Burch and Margaret Wade. Do you know who this Littleberry was? Thank you for the information you provided. Hope to be talking to you further. Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JMason1195 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.burch/2258.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Makes sense to me too, Bernice. I felt that two different Littleberry's had been combined into one. He seemed to be of the same generation as the Charles Burch who many say was his father. My gut instinct was that he was another son or a nephew of Joseph and Edith Hargrove Burch. I know Joseph had a son named Alfred Littleberry but he could also have had a son with the first name of Littleberry. But I was leaning more toward him being a nephew. The same with Charles who married Sarah Howell and the Charles who married a Rebecca. I did not believe they were the same person. Of course, the problem is proving any of this. There are bits and pieces of info which support it but nothing really substansive. But certainly Littleberry Burch, father of Seaborn Wright Burch, was not the same Littleberry Burch who died in 1842, since he was definitely alive in 1850. Thanks for the info, I'm going to continue searching. Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
