So when she needed a birth certificate to apply for a job, she filed a delayed birth certificate. Her original name was Sarah Camilla Haywood, but she was always called "Sallie", so on her birth certificate she named herself Sallie Camilla Haywood. My point is that she didn't stick with her original name. I've seen where Valentine I. Burch descendants, that have also been named Valentine, have gone by the name Vol, Valley, or Val, so the Volney, might have been a nice-name.
