Sure would appreciate it if you would check out the "Photo Gallery" at this site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~polkcountytxconnections I have submitted a few photos and could use some help on identification of some of the people in the photos. 3rd photo is of "subjects unknown", and could be a member of the Richards, Green, Holcomb, Burch family; 4th photo is of James Burch children, but I'm not sure which one is Melvina and which one is Ellen Mary - they would be at the left; 9th photo is a gathering of the Methodist church members of Corrigan, TX, and I only know the one person for sure, as she was my g-grandmother, Hortense Caton; 16th photo is the building of a church in Corrigan, TX, and I thought it was the Methodist church, but then I saw a photo of a Baptist church in Corrigan, that looked more like the photo; 17th photo has men that I could not identify all of them; 18th photo has quite a few people in it, and looks to be at someone's home and some of the people that I could identify, lived in Corrigan, and Atmar lived in Groveton, TX. Thanks a bunch, and if you know who any of these "unknowns" are, I surely would like to hear from you, so I can record the info on the back of the photo. Sallie Cannon near Beaumont, TX

Still looking for anything on JOSEPH BURCH of Smithville Township, Brunswick Co., NC. His will is dated12-15-1821. Hello Burch Researchers, Is anyone on this list familiar with a family history, "The Farquhar, Nichols, Burch & Lockhart Families" by Rev. James Ramsey? The title and author of this was mentioned in an article appearing in the Person County, North Carolina Heritage Book published by the Person County Genealogical Society. Best regards, John Fox Winston Salem, NC
Good question! She had children; he had children but did they have children?? You did not give a date of his death but presume it was before the census. Have you looked in the marriage records? Looks as if you are just going to have to build the Maupin and Burch families by deeds and additional probate records other than wills for all Burch families in the area. Ann Andersen
I descend from Jane Epperson and John Burch Jr. I am certain of the identities of both John Burch Sr, John Burch Jr and Jane Epperson because I have pension papers for John Burch Jr. and widows pension for Jane Epperson Burch. Confusion seem to lie with John Burch Sr and Judith Maupin Epperson, did they have any issue? I will include a brief summary: Here is the John Burch Sr line that I have discovered to date: Will of John Burch SR Albemarle Co VA Will Book 10 Page 253 I John Burch snr of Albemarle county Knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death & being weak of body, though of disposing mind & memory do constitute and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (to wit) 1st My desire is that if my wife should be the longest lives that she shall enjoy my whole estate both real and personal during her life and at her death to be disposed of as I shall hereafter direct. 2nd I give to Dilliard Sandige my wife's son inlaw the land that I now live on containing one hundred acres more or less on Mormans River on the condition the said Dillard Sandige will come & build on the land and take care of me & my wife Judith Burch as long as we live and keep us free from want in our old age to him & his heirs forever 3rdly I give to my grand daughter Hannah Burch 1 large iron kettle at the death of my wife judith Burch. 4thly I give to Dilliard Sandige my plough geer (to wit) harnes(?) collar and iron chains at my death. 5thly All the Balance of my perrishable property I Give to my beloved wife Judith Burch except what I shall hereafter name to do with as she sees cause at her death 6thly I give to each of my children John Burch jr George Burch Charles Burch Daniel Burch Polly Mabery Hanna Burch & Henry Burch one dollar to them & their heirs forever 7thly and lastly I constitute & ordain Chapman W Maupin my executor of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all other wills & testaments by me heretofore made in witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 19th day of July in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & fourteen- Codicel to the above will my desire is that their may be no appraisment of my estate concluded as above &c Teste his David Viand John x Burch seal Adam Viand mark at a court held for Albemarle county 4th July 1831 This instrument of writing perporting to be the last will & testament of John Burch was produced into court & proved by the oaths of David Viand & Adam Viand witness these to & ordered to be recorded- Teste I Ganell cc JOHN BURCH SR b ?c1730 or before (based on his son John Burch Jr birth date of 1752), d between 1814-1831 (based on time his will was written and when it was proved 1831 in Albemarle Co VA). He is found living in Albemarle Co VA and perhaps Reading, Berks Co PA c 1776/77 where some of his children testified they were living (based on pension application of John Burch Jr). John Burch Jr entered the Revolutionary war in Reading, BerksCoPA. John Burch Sr's parents are still unknown to date. JOHN BURCH SR married ?UNKNOWN Living children of John Burch Sr and Unknown by 19 July 1814, (perhaps there were additional children who were deceased prior to 1814 when will was written). 1. HENRY BURCH (George Burch, and Polly Mayberry testified on behalf of their brother John Burch Jr for pension application in 1820 in Montgomery Co KY. Daniel Burch also testified but did not state his relationship, Daniel was living in Scott Co IN.) JOHN BURCH SR married #2 JUDITH MAUPIN EPPERSON after 1777 date unknown, location unknown (There were probably not any children from this union). Judith Maupin b c 1756 is the d/o Gabriel Maupin and Anna Ballard, Judith Maupin married first to David Epperson Jr, David Epperson Jr b c 1754, d 1777 Valley Forge PA. David Epperson Jr is the s/o David Epperson Sr and Hannah Thompson). JOHN BURCH JR s/o John Burch Sr and Unknown b 7 Nov 1752 d 30 Aug 1837. John Burch Jr aged 34 years, married 17 Jan 1786 in Albemarle VA to [Lucy] Jane Epperson. Jane Epperson b c 1765 was the d/o David Epperson Sr and Hannah Thompson (Jane Epperson is also presumed to be the sister of David Epperson Jr, presumed sister in law to Judith Maupin Epperson and presumed step daughter in law to John Burch Sr and Judith Maupin Epperson Burch...(Judith Maupin, Judith Maupin Epperson and Judith Maupin Epperson Burch are the names of the same person)...this is where I think the confusion lies). Dates for John Burch Jr and Jane Epperson were gathered from pension papers. Living children of John Burch Jr and Jane Epperson Burch named in will written 21 July 1837, will was proved January 1838 in Montgomery Co KY. The children of John Burch Jr and Jane Epperson were all born in VA., they are also found in the 1810 census of Albemarle Co VA, as is John Burch Sr but in different households. John Burch Jr and family are also found in census records in Bath/Montgomery Co KY. starting 1820. 1. Polly Maupin- deceased [married 3 Oct/Nov 1808 AlbCoVA to Bennett Maupin s/o Matthew Maupin/Lucy Ballard] 2. Nancy Maupin [married 2 Aug 1813 to Carr Maupin s/o John Maupin/Frances Dabney] 3. I will to my grand daughter judith America Gardiner a feather bed & bedstead furnished as followeth (viz) two cotton sheets a cotton counterpane striped with blue and a bed quilt. I desire that the above named beds be left in the care of the mothers of the above named children till they arrive at the age of fifteen years. I give to my daughter Jane Burch. one dollar. & my desire & will is that there shall be no sale of the Balance of my estate but that it shall be divided into two equal lots & a lot given to each of my two daughters ( to wit) Anna Gardiner & Hannah Sandige & I do hereby constitute my friend Thompson Brown my executor to this my last will & testament hereby revoking all other wills or testaments made by me heretofore. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twelfth day of November one thousand eight hundred & twenty eight. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of Martin Maupin her Tilmon I Maupin Judith + Burch seal William Harris mark At a court held for Albemarle county the 6th of June 1831 This instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Judith Burch deceased was produced into court & proved by the oaths of Tilman I Maupin & William Harris witnessses thereto & ordered to be recorded. A Ganell cc (either A or I) I again transcribed it verbatim. I think the wills (John Burch Sr and Judith Maupin Epperson Burch) proves Judith Maupin Epperson Burch is not the mother of John Burch Jr which many researchers state. It would appear however as though Judith Maupin had three daughters with David Epperson Jr. [I believe there were only two] Hannah Sandridge Anna Gardiner/Gardner Jane Burch The Jane Epperson who married John Burch Jr in 1786 is stated as being the daughter of David Epperson, if she were the daughter of David Jr she would only be around 12 years old when she married John Burch Jr (age 34) so I think that scenario is highly unlikely [widow pension records show Jane's birth date to be c 1765 placing her in the right time frame for being the daughter of David Epperson Sr]. Jane Epperson Burch is listed at times as Lucy Jane Epperson, yet I have never seen Lucy being used in any of her descendant's given names nor pension documents. In the will of David Epperson Sr he refers to 'Jane' as Lucy Burch. I believe that [Lucy]Jane Epperson Burch, being sister in law and stepdaughter of Judith Maupin probably had a very close relationship with each other and that is why Judith listed her as a daughter instead of step daughter. The other scenario is that if John Burch Sr and Judith Maupin were the parents of Jane Burch, why then wasn't she listed in John Burch Sr will? and why wasn't she treated as an equal to Hannah Epperson Sandridge and Anna Gardner? I believe that Hannah [named for Hannah Thompson, paternal grandmother] Epperson Sandridge was the first born and Anna [named for Anna Ballard, maternal grandmother] Gardner was born second...perhaps shortly after the death of her father David Epperson Jr. This follows the traditional naming patterns of the time. I look forward to learning any additional information, especially any clues to whom John Burch Sr might descend from, his first wife or information on his other children? Several researchers place my John Burch Sr as being the father of John Burch of BarrenCoKY which is incorrect, as the pension papers prove. I would love to find the marriage records for Judith Maupin Epperson and John Burch Sr. and for Anna Epperson Gardner. I have not found any sources re these issues. Does anyone happen to have any information on who the parents of Jane Burch (probably born VA) might be? She was married 6 Apr 1817 in Howard County, MO to Giles L. Williams. Their daughter, Mary Jane is my gg-grandmother. Any information will certainly be appreciated.

It is assumed that Henry and Susannah were married in VA. According to the book I have on Henry and Susannah extinsive research was done on Henry and Susannah, but records for those times were hard to come by. I don't know if you are interested in this three volume set of books published my George B. Armentrout or not, plus I don't know if George is still alive as I have not received any updates to my books since I purchased them. The contact information for George B. Armentrout is 500 Greenbriar Lane, Bedford, Texas 76021-2115 Phone (817) 498-3464. To me this three volume set is well worth every penny I paid for it. Karen Stevens

Someone might be interested to know of another Burch in Marion Co IA but I don't know how (or if) she is closely related to the Burchs in the Burch Cemetery. She is Phebe H. Burch born in 1799 in Herkimer Co NY. She had an illegitimate son, Franklin Hazelton Ward, by Aaron Ward Jr.; took him to Ohio where she married John Huff Mikesell in Montgomery Co OH. The family moved on to St. Joseph Co IN and then to Marion Co IA where the Mikesells raised nine children. Phebe died at Cordova, Marion Co IA in 1869 and is buried in the Mikesell Cemetery in Summit Twp. Thanks to Newton "Bud" Burch of Iowa for his efforts in finding an old BURCH family Cemetery located in Union Township, in Western Marion County, Iowa. This cemetery is on what once was known as "The Burch Farm" and there was a "Burch School" nearby. He says that "The cemetery is well trimmed around the stones". He sends the following information from the markers: 1- Inscription no longer readable 2-Tabitha Burch Daughter of R. E. and Anna, died Feb. 4, 1857- 17y-5m-10d Note: I believe this should read "Daughter of R. B. and Anna" 3-Margaret F. Nichols, June 21, 1799 - June 1, 1858 4- Philip H.
