Subject: Passengers to Baltimore Now Online - 1st 6 Months of 1839 Hello All, I have recently completed transcribing the names of the passengers who arrived in Baltimore during the first six months of 1839. Most of the passengers came from Germany. Others were from Great Britain, Ireland and the West Indies. 1839 Baltimore Passenger Lists Database (1st 6 Months of the Year) http://www.genesearch.com/baltimore/1839.html It should be pointed out that the Customs (Federal) Baltimore Passenger Lists and the separately kept Baltimore City Lists have not survived for 1839. You will not find any passenger lists for 1839 on National Archives Microfilm M255-2 (which covers April 7, 1837 to July 31, 1840). This database was extracted from the microfilmed Baltimore Quarterly Abstracts, which were compiled at the end of each quarter of 1839 (and other years as well). What you can find in this database for each passenger... Name, Age, Gender, Occupation, Country to Which They Belong, and Country They Intend to Inhabit. You will not find ship names, exact arrival dates or ports of departure. The Quarterly Abstracts for Baltimore do not have that information. Also, the Quarterly Abstracts may not have included every passenger. This database was made to help fill in the gaps in otherwise missing Baltimore passenger records. For help locating Baltimore passenger lists in other years see... Baltimore Passenger Lists Quick Guide 1820-1952 http://www.genesearch.com/baltimore/quickguide.html From the Roots list. Bette
