I have been searching the Indiana censuses for 1860 and 1870. There are a few Bunkers I cannot identify and a couple Germans you might be able to help me with or need information on. 1860 Perry Twp, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana, John Bunker age 35, laborer, b. Baden; Dana age 34, b. Hanover; John age 5, b. OH; Johanna age 3. b. IN; Mary age 1 b. IN. I cannot find this family in our database. 1870 Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana, Harmon age 26, b. Hanover, RR fireman (I cannot read the railroad he was working for). Our records indicate he was married to Eliza Knellson in 1882 in Cass Co., IN and d. 4 May 1913 in Defiance, OH. This is the first we have a birthplace. His name was probably Herman and misspelled. In 1860 in Clay, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, Catherine Bunker age 17, b. IN, living in the household of John and Elizabeth Slutsman. Catherine was the last listed for that household and right beneath her name was Elijah Bunker age 26 b. IN, with William age 1 b. IN. Elijah's name could have been Elisah but since I have never heard of that name I am assuming it was Elijah. I cannot find this family in our database. We have another Elijah I cannot find in 1870 in Clay Twp, St. Joseph Co., IN who looks like the Elijah above reported in 1860. Elijah Bunker age 38, b. NY, Catherine age 29, b. IN, Heiny age 11, b. IN; Noah age 4 b. IN; Mary E. age 3/12 b. Mar 1870, IN. Also in Clay Twp in St. Mary's Academy was May age 14. b. IN. In 1870 in Elkhart, Elkhart Co., Indiana we have Amelia Bunker age 28, b. OH, dressmaking, in the household of Alonzo and Addie Upson. Just beneath her name is John Shigley age 8 b. IN. In 1870 in Vernon Twp, Jackson Co., Indiana is David Bunker age 33 b. IN with Minerva age 21, b. IN and Chas. A. age 2 b. IN. I can't find them in the database either. In 1870 in Southeast Twp, Orange Co., Indiana is Gideson Bunker age 31, b. IN, with Martha age 32, William age 7, George age 5, Interion (that is what it looks like) a male, age 3 and Mary age 1/12 who should have been born in July 1870. In 1870 in Washington Twp, Rush Co. is John age 35, b. IN, with Rhoda age 27 b. IN, Alice age 8 b. IN, William B. age 7, b. IN; Clara A. age 3 b. IN and Rhoda age 1 b.
