Cousins, FYI The History of West Virginia website contains the following letter written by E. C. Bunker during the Civil War. It is conclusive evidence that E. E. Bunker and E. C. Bunker is the same person. Can you decipher the unknown words? gil Grafton, August 12, 1864 F. P. Pierporish (sp), Adjutant Dear Sir, Your fam (sp) of the 11" duly rec'd. I like the regulations you prescribe, so far as I have had time to examine them. Today we leave here. Had a grand review on the 10" at Portland. Col. Evans was with me. The Preston Reg'ts are the beat drilled and most effective commands in my brigade. Hair (sp) had a rich time with the "Malish." Some of Col. Brown's Dunkerd (sp) brethren would not a first take guns. One old Dutchman said it was wrong to fight. Col. J. W. Brown asked him if he thought Washington was wrong. "Oh No," he replied. "Dat was before Christ." Brown told him to shoulder his musket, that he was too damned ignorant to have any conscience. Would like very much to see you and Brown, have many rich incidents to tell you. The Militia, altho badly organized is more effective than I supposed. In haste yours very truly, E. C. Bunker
