Our Nantucket publication tells us that William Bunker md 8 Apr 1790 to Mary PITTS. William was lost at sea after the birth of their one child, Anna Bunker. Mary remarried to Elihu FOLGER, according to the BFA. Today I received the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 90, #4, Dec. 2002 which focuses on Family Bibles. Pages 304-305 cover the FOLGER FAMILY RECORD, NANTUCKET TO OHIO 1812. This records, first, the family of Jethro Folger b 1731 and his wife Mary b 1735. One son is Elihu. Elihu's record is covered second, and from what I can tell: Elihu m (1) Mary b 1764 d 1801; (2) Mary b 1770 d 1 Aug 1804; (3) Elizabeth, who was his wife when they left Nantucket and moved to Cincinnati in 1812; (4?) Anna. I believe that his second marriage was our Mary PITTS BUNKER because the death dates are the same. The *next* entry is: "Marcy SWAIN her mother departed this Life the first day of the 9 mo 1804 Aged 73 years. Whose mother is Marcy Swain? Could she have been Marcy (?) PITTS SWAIN, i.e. the wife of Mary's father Mr. Pitts who remarried to a Swain, or would she have been the mother of the first Mary? The entries have all been given in chronological order. I am wondering about his third wife, who is only mentioned in the following manner: "Anna Folger Wife to Elihu Folger departed this Life the 15 day of the 10 mo Ageed 48 years." The coincidence of her name being Anna makes me wonder whether Elihu married Anna BUNKER, daughter of his second wife Mary Pitts Bunker. But we have that Anna married, in 1809, Matthew COFFIN. Could he have died and she returned to live with Folger for lack of any other family? I'm hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on the lives of this family. Mary-Gene Page
