Dick Eastman's newsletter is out again and this issue is so full of information that I think will interest many of you I recommend that you read it. http://www.rootsforum.com This is the best genealogical newsletter published. I highly recommend it for the interesting information and sources that Dick publishes every week. Click on the standard edition. It is free. If you want more you can pay $15. I only get the standard edition and find it very valuable. This week I was especially interested in the GEDmark program. This is a free program that marks every single person in your GEDCOM with the source that you put in. The Bunker Family Assn. does not send out GEDCOM's. If we did though this would be excellent as we could mark every file with the BFA website as a source. Many people download GEDCOM's to and from the internet. A lot of people have been known to sell this information and claim it as their own without indicating that someone else did the research. This GEDmark program addresses that issue and the program is free. Dick also talks about Linux. This is a free operating system that really does not work with genealogy programs except one. It operates like Windows but there are some problems. These are quickly being solved and this new version seems to really excite Dick. If you do not want to spend megabucks for WIN XP maybe you might want to try Linux. Dick gives you the links. There is going to be a virtual genealogical conference. This sounds like a great idea and a way to learn a lot at a low price and without all the travel. It is going to be between June 10 and July 10 I think. Check out the newsletter for the dates and other information. I intend to "attend" this conference as it is the only one I can afford. If I could afford to go to several I would definitely as you really learn a lot at the conferences. At about $1,000 each though I cannot afford it. There is much more in the newsletter. Bette
