While waiting around for the laptop to get updated I decided to check my spam blocker to see if I had received any legitimate messages that I wanted to read. There were none that I had not already authorized. However, there were 34 messages offering me things to increase the size or effectiveness of my "ahem" "male member". Since I do not have one regardless of all the numerous names they can think of to describe it, they are certainly a waste of cyberspace aren't they? In addition, I received 3 more advertisements for prescription drugs (not Viagra), one solicitation to help some poor person in Nigeria needing to get me to help them get the funds their government stole from them or whatever, and one that had as a subject "God Bless you" which was also probably a solicitation for some poor person in some remote country. And then I got 2 messages from companies I have done business with in the past but no longer want their ads or products. It seems to me that spam has become the mecca of the porn world. There is nothing we or the government can do about this as most of this stuff is coming from foreign countries and by the time it can be traced the website has been shut down and they have just moved elsewhere. Most of the servers are offering spam blockers. However, they are just as likely to block mail you want as mail you do not want. There are some like the one I use that blocks everything that a human being does not respond to. I anticipate that soon all the servers will be using this type of blocker and our unwanted mail is going to have to be sent individually by a human instead of by mass mailing. This should create numerous jobs for people in places like India that are now handling most of the computer support, sales, etc. anyway and it ought to increase the use of English worldwide so that the workers can read these messages. Now aren't you glad that you are providing jobs for poor people? Advertisement is the lifeblood of the business world. I think it is very interesting that the porn and illegal drug world is using spam much much more than legitimate businesses. I prefer my advertisements to come by regular mail. That way it helps to keep the cost of postage down and I can deposit it in the recycle bin on the way in from the mailbox. I don't mind at all that TV is full of ads. I watch so little TV it does not affect me much anyway. My city has a thing about billboards as do many others and there are fewer of them all the time. Tucson likes descriptive murals much better. Pictures, not words. Sorry for rambling on but isn't it the pits that 90% of our email is porn or sex related? Bette
