I unthinkingly forwarded the NGS notification about Elec. Rec. day without adding a note to it. It's requesting everyone's attention to the fact that ERs can fade or be lost to future generations and we need to be careful to preserve them as much as possible.

Having lost records stored in the cloud along with other people who have lost their entire database that way, I am not a big fan of digital storage. I feel in the future there will be a huge gap in records kept by the government because they will not be accessible. I have actually seen and touched paper documents and vellum documents that are hundreds of years old. Seen and held in my hands photos that date back to 1850s. Libraries and archives constantly clean out files but they usually copy them to another media first that will help preserve them and still make them available. With all digital records, you need passwords, internet connections, working internets, digital storage companies staying in business and keeping their access up to date with new programs, and much more.
