You need to look at any new genealogical program to see if they automatically connect to the internet and put all your data on the net. Try to avoid that. There should be a way to turn it off but you may have to look for it. If you are trying to transfer TMG data to any new genealogical program you should check out the TMG forum online first. Transferring TMG to any other program still means you will lose a lot of data. Also, if you have a large number of people in your data, it might not transfer too easy.
