    3. Bette: I have found that both TMG and Roots Magic work well with Windows 10. I have had no problems. As a died-in-the-wool TMG user, I'm still sticking with that for my main program, but I purchased Roots Magic and Legacy as backups and periodically transfer my TMG data into the others. I've stayed with TMG largely because I much prefer the reports--both the flexibility of options and their formats--and because there is a certain loss of some data in even the best of transfers. Yu are wise to test the new program with smaller databases first. Do you know that a group of TMG experts are working on a new program to supersede TMG? It's called the Historical Research Environment project and is intended to make import directly from TMG possible but will be designed to appeal to the much wider market of all historians. You can find information on it at both the TMG and TMG Refugees mailing lists at RootsWeb. We have about 90,000 names in the databases making for some difficulties transferring data to another program. I tried Family Tree Maker and had real problems. Now Family Tree Maker is being discontinued also. Roots Magic has a system that allows TMG files to be transferred without using a GEDCOM. The program is free or you can buy a version for $29.95. I tried transferring one of the small databases with only about 3,000 names and it worked very well. I will work on trying to operate this program to see whether I like it. There are some problems working our TMG database with Windows 10 and their updates. I have Windows 8.1 and do not want to upgrade to Win 10 for that reason. The Roots Magic program is supposed to work very well with Windows 10. Does anyone have Roots Magic Essentials and operating Windows 10? I would appreciate your feedback. Having lost considerable data in the cloud, I am really reluctant to use a program that is all online and that is where most of them are going. Roots Magic has an online component but it is limited to databases of only 250 names. However, their stand alone PC program has room for unlimited data so it says.
