I just had the time to look through all of the Bunker Family Assn website again. I have not done that for some time. There are several changes. This is a really good website. There are several links to others and lots of information. Doug Detling, our webmaster has done an excellent job. If you haven't looked at it for awhile, I highly recommend it. <http://www.bunkerfamilyassn.org> At other websites you can search the 1880 census index free at <http://wwwfamilysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/searc h_census.asp> Library of Congress online prints and photos catalog <http://lcweb.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html> There are enhanced search capabilities for the Ellis Island Database at <http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/eidb> for those of you who are searching immigrants who arrived between 1892-1924. Not all immigrants came through Ellis Island but the majority did. If you have tried all the others in your searches and are still looking, try <http://www.gendex.com> A list of free reference websites can be found at <http://www.bccls.org/reference/useful-urls.shtml> Good searching. Please forgive me - you are correct. It was Jane TURNER who was born c1632; Jane GODFREY was b c1651/2. My eyes crossed when I was looking at all the Janes. According to a 2000 message from Sue and Bob Bates [which I cannot find - perhaps I have deleted a large group of BFA messages from my disk...oh, woe] - George BUNKER married Elizabeth GODFREY on 5 May 1644/5 at Maulden Parish, Bedfordshire, England. Her parents were Moses GODFREY and Elizabeth MEAD/MEADE. I have not looked to see if this marriage has shown up in Brian's sendings. I gave an incorrect link to the Bunker Family Assn website where there is information about the DNA project. It is http://www.bunkerfamilyassn.org Sorry about this. I just checked this one and it works. My flying fingers got the best of me. Bette
In the never ending search for Jane Godfrey I found SWAINS OF NANTUCKET by Robert H. Swain, published 1994. On page 9, he says "Jane: b. c. 1630, Topsfield, Mass. was the dau. of Richard & Jane (Turner) Godfrey, England." He does not list a source for this information. However, if Jane Godfrey was born in Topsfield, MA she could not have been the Elizabeth Godfree that married George Bunker in Malden, Bedfordshire, England in 1644. Then of course, we have Jane Elizabeth Godfrey, b. Mar 6 1624 in Topsfield, MA dau of John Godfrey, the witch. This gives two undocumented references to a Jane Godfrey being born in Topsfield, MA. In other genealogies I find that Jane Godfrey, dau of Richard and Jane Turner Godfrey married men named Woodward and Cobb but no Bunker or Swain. Both Richard Godfrey and John Godfrey were in MA at a time when they could have been Jane's father. We also have an Elizabeth Godfrey who married John Cary in 1644 in East Bridgewater, MA. There were Godfreys in MA when George Bunker arrived. Did he come to MA because his wife was related to them? Had Elizabeth perhaps passed away and he needed family to care for his children William and Elizabeth? Was the George Bunker who moved to Topsfield, MA even the same one who married Elizabeth Godfree in Malden in 1644? If we can find a Nantucket descendant to participate in the DNA project we may at least be able to answer the last question. Any Nantucket Bunker male descendants out there? Go to http://www.bunkerfamily.org and click on the DNA surname project for more information or email me. Bette
Another Bunker I can't identify is Harman b. Ontario age 25, Camp Maker, married, English origin, Church of England with Melissa b. Ont. age 22, English origin and Howard age 2 b. Ont. Could he be the son of Ebenezer Bunker (D-79)? He had a son named Harmon but we have no further info about Harmon, son of Ebenezer except that he went to Canada and stayed there. Bette

The LDS church has put the 1880 U.S. census and the 1881 English and Canadian census' online. Go to http://www.familysearch.org and click on the census on the left side of the page. I found while working on the 1881 Canadian census that it was necessary to do a surname search to find the entire household. If you are looking for a specific person, like William Bunker, it will find all the William Bunkers but you will not know who was in their households with them. There were only 127 Bunkers in Canada in 1881 and only 27 households. However, In England and the U.S. I imagine there were a lot more. It may be that you will have to narrow it down to a specific state and do a surname search in that state to get your household. Another site of interest for military records is http://www.buffalonet.org Click on army barracks and you will find lists of officers and enlisted men. This site also has many interesting facts about Buffalo, NY. Bette

Click on this and it will take you to a page where you can put in the name, city and state of the person you are looking for. Hi all: First, this was sent to me by a friend ... http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/census/ If you know where somebody was living at the time of the 1930 census (e.g. - on Mifflin Street in Madison, Wis., or on San Vincente Blvd. in Los Angeles, Calif.) you can use it to find the enumeration district for the 1930 census. I expect that will save folks considerable work. And my thanks to Joel Weintraub, Dave Kehs, and Steve Morse - the guys who put this whole thing together. Have fun H.A. Hi Cousins, Be very wary of this scam. A good friend of mine in Sacramento was taken to the tune of $180,000. This internet scam is actively supported by the Nigerian government, and is one of the single largest sources of funds for that country. On another note, has it been nailed down yet as to precisely when James 1 (D) arrived in the colonies? We have not nailed down the precise date that James 1 got to America. The first mention is in 1646 in Kittery, Me when he served on a Coroner's Jury. At that time he was about 18. This could be the first mention because he just got to this country or because he had just reached the age of 18 so it is hard to say. There were numerous people in Kittery who were from Devon, including his later employer, Mrs. Shapleigh. I am working on that right now by trying to trace down the other Devon people that were in Kittery at the time. I may get a clue as to when he came and why his parents do not seem to have been with him. Once I learn something interesting, I will ask the Devon people to check things out for us. It looks like a bunch of them went from Devon to Kittery, Maine between 1625 and 1650.
