Two other Bunkers died in Mahnomen Co. before 1920 and were probably related to this family. They were Isaac d. 17 Jun 1919 and Cletus Otto d. 23-5-1918. Actually, Cletus Otto Bunkers was the son of Frank and Lillian (Welter) Bunkers, who were my grandparents. Cletus was my father's older brother, and Cletus died as a baby. Another brother, Vincent, was also born at Mahnomen and died as an infant there.

More on the Bunkers on the White Earth Indian Reservation in Minnesota. William b. about 1864 and probably died between 1920 when he appears on the census and 1930 when he does not, married Lottie Goodwin b. about 1872 and d. 7 Nov 1941 Mahnomen Co. MN Their son Bert Frank Bunker d. 10 Jul 1966 in Hennepin Co. MN. He married Susan Porter b. either 10 Jul 1892 or 11 Jul 1890, d. 19 Aug 1973 Naytahwaush, Mahnomen Co. MN William and Lottie's son George D. Bunker b. 9 Nov 1879, d. 1 Jul 1958, MN Two other Bunkers died in Mahnomen Co. before 1920 and were probably related to this family. They were Isaac d. 17 Jun 1919 and Cletus Otto d. 23-5-1918. This information came for the Minnesota Historical Society Death Certificate Index http://people.mnhs.org/dci This is an excellent resource for anyone searching Minnesota records. Bette
I thought I would start out the year with some good research sites covering many different areas but all ones I have recently searched. For BLM land records try http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ For records from Devon, England try The Devon Records Office which has copies of baptismal, marriage, burial and probate records. Small fee for copies and research, but they are very prompt, very helpful and using a credit card saves all the problems with conversion to Euros. Incidentally, if you need to make a £ sign when doing your transcriptions of wills, hold down your alt key while using the number pad to put in 156. Devon Records are at http://www.devon.gov.uk/dro/homepage.html If you need to preserve old records, etc. there are tips at http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/bytopic/genpub/ URL won't work for me if I put www. Good records for Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, including several census' can be found at http://www.telusplanet.net/public/mtoll/ It has some nice links to other Canadian sites too. Speaking of Canadian sites there is a website where you can search free and if you see someone you are interested in, you can order copies of records for a small fee. Mrs. Simmons is very reliable and very helpful. http://www.virtuel.qc.ca/simmons Her records are primarily for the English in Quebec Province but there are some others on there too. Including some in Vermont. She lives on the border and has a VT address so no international postage and she accepts checks from American banks. Incidentally, postage to Canada is 60 cents an ounce. Also, 60 cents to Mexico. All other foreign countries the postage is 80 cents an ounce. If you order records from them you may need to get international postage coupons for the return postage. In Canada the rate of exchange is in our favor so most Canadians don't charge postage if you pay in US dollars. http://www.nara.gov is the National Archives which has numerous free publications, forms for ordering copies of records and a lot of other good things our tax dollars pays for. Perry Co. Ohio is problem for me but this website is a very good one. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tfisher/tefishermain.htm Another URL that does not like www. It includes a couple books that can be searched with you browser and information on adjoining counties too. Doesn't sort out my Crosby's for me but it is filled with interesting information. To search a document with your browser, go to the top of the page where you see edit. Click on edit and look for find on this page or something similar depending on your program. Click on that and a little box comes up. Type in the word or name you are looking for and click find next. Do this again until it has searched the whole document. You can browse any document or web page you see on the internet this way. It also works for census images. Last, but not least, is an interesting Pennsylvania site with copies of information about the PA Revolutionary war soldiers, Mexican War, Spanish American War and WWI medical application cards. http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/archive.asp Happy hunting! Cousins and other researchers, I have finally arranged for the transfer of my personal web site, which contains lots of family history information (Greencity.org) to a new host, and the site should be up and running shortly. Actually, all the original files have been transferred over, and as soon as the www.greencity.org web address is recognized on the Internet's Domain Name Servers, it should be available, I expect perhaps as early as Thursday. If any of you have any problems with any of the individual pages, please advise me (ddetling@greencity.org) as soon as possible so the file(s) can be fixed. Here are the three sites I manage: The official Bunker Family Association web site is at www.bunkerfamilyassn.org/index.html. The Roblee researchers site is at www.robleeonline.org/index.html - this site is financially supported by donations from individual researchers, for which we are very grateful! My personal website is at www.greencity.org/index.html - site to be up shortly. The main family history overall page is at www.greencity.org/ftree.html. Thanks to all for demonstrated patience in the last month during these transitions. All the best for the New Year, and happy hunting for long- and not-so-long lost relations. ---------- Doug Detling (ddetling@charter.net; ddetling@greencity.org) Web Site Coordinator for the Bunker Family Association and Roblee Researchers, and List Coordinator for RootsWeb lists (Bradt-L, Brott-L, Bunker-L, Roblee-L and Detling-L)
I spent today watching the birds at the feeder. There were several little Anna Hummingbirds and they will soon be nesting as their first babies are usually born in mid-January. It was a beautiful day in Tucson. Robbie and Susie are already into the New Year and the fireworks in Sydney, Aus. were spectacular. I will probably be sound asleep at midnight until the shooting starts. It is a custom here to shoot off guns at midnight New Year's Eve and all of us non-shooters cower in our beds praying that none of the bullets come through the roof. As you know, what goes up must come down some place and I hope it is not in my bed! I hope everyone has a very good year next year and that I see many of you in Portsmouth and Dover, NH in June. Bette
In the 1920 census in Maricopa Co., Arizona (the county where Phoenix is) were three little Bunker girls, Dorothy age 11, b. Indiana with parents born in Indiana; Hulda M. age 9, b. Arizona, parents b. IN; and Ruthy H. age 7, b. AZ and parents IN. They were listed as "boarders" in the household of William and Cora Bissett. Does anyone have any idea who these little girls might be? Bette
On a website that carries burials all over the country, I found several Bunkers buried in Military National Cemeteries in California. http://www.internment.net/us/ca/index.htm is the CA site. If you want to search other places it is http://www.internment.net where they have burials in several other countries, records from flooded cemeteries, etc. It is a good site if you are looking for someone. However, it by no means has all the burials in any one location. For the California veterans and their families there were several I can't find in our records and some I can. If they have an RN with a number behind their names they are in the Bunker database. Bette et al, History of Nantucket by Alexander Starbuck -- Page #785-786 -- reflects that John Hussey and Jedidah Coffin had eight children ... Child five is Bethiah -- died 9th 7 mo. 1791: probably married (June 1759) Bachelor Bunker ... Child six is Abigail, -- probably married January 1763, Joseph Myrick ... I don't have anything on Joseph Myrick -- However, *History of Nantucket* reflects that both Abigail [noted above], daughter of John Hussey and Jedidah Coffin; and Abigail, daughter of Seth Hussey and Sarah Jenkins, married Joseph Myrick in 1763 ... yet, I believe that Bachelor Bunker married Bethiah Hussey's younger sister Abigail after the death of his first wife because her death left him with many young children and marrying a sister of the deceased bride was the norm in those days on that island ... And it was other Abigail, daughter of Seth Hussey and Sarah Jenkins, who married Joseph Myrick ... I was not able to find a Paul Hussey and Hannah Varney union nor was I able to find a Bethiah, daughter of Paul Hussey, in that particular book ... I also noted that Bethiah [Hussey] Bunker's death is different -- yet similar in the *Bunker Genealogy* and *History of Nantucket* -- 7th 9 mo. 1771 and 9th 7 mo. 1771 ... More research needed <grin> ... The Coffin Family edited by Louis Coffin only reflects that Jedidah Coffin, daughter of Joseph Coffin and Bethia Macy, married John Hussey -- No children reflected ... Because the book only follows the male lines, it is of no further help ... One last item -- In the Bunker Genealogy: The book doesn't reflect by which wife Batchelor Bunker [N-40] had the sixteen children ... It may help in identifying which Abigail and Bethiah Hussey if the original birth records could be found ... I hope I didn't confuse the original question by the above <Grin> ... The BFA database does not give the parents of Abigail Hussey. However, it does give the parents of Bethiah but says they were Paul Hussey and Hannah Varney. Anybody got any more information? Thanks. Batchelor's Will dated 26-Oct-1811, proved __-Jun-1813, mentions wife Abigail, executrix; "my two sons Simeon and Stephen"; daughter Hulda Coffin, wife of Daniel Coffin Esq. of Sherborn, daughter Elizabeth Gardner, wife of Robert Gardner Jr. of Sherborn, daughter Sarah Cutter, wife of Aaron Cutter, daughter Lydia, singlewoman (Bunker Genealogy, page #41). Need a death date for Batchelder Bunker. He was born 10 March 1737 I believe, and was married to Abigail Hussey on 22 Aug 1773. Any information would be helpful. Thanks. I may have given you this site before but since it regularly gets updated and there are several more NH records recently added here it is again. http://userdb.rootsweb.com/births Click on more info to get the names of the parents, etc. Bette

Dick Eastman in his latest newsletter mentioned this website in England for cops and crooks names in the 1800's. http://www.lightage.demon.co.uk All you will find is the name of the person mentioned in the news, their address and the date of publication. They make their money by providing you with a report which contains more details. There were a few Bunkers on the list. It's a fun site. I like their disclaimer about the spelling of the names being entered by a tipsy court reporter and transcribed by a tipsy transcribed. Bette
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. In Tucson it has been raining for a couple days which is badly needed. And it puts snow on the mountains so it looks like we will have bougainvillea and lantana blooming in Tucson with the oranges and grapefruits ripe on the trees and snow on the mountains for Christmas. Very pretty. I hope this next year brings you joy and love. Bette
I found a Bunker family in the Panama Canal Zone in 1930. Bunker, Napoleon age 38, b. NC and parents b. NC, riveter, mechanical div. Bunker, Myrtle C. 32, wife b. NC and parents b. NC Children: James W. 11, b. Canal Zone; Jack Y. 9, b. Canal Zone; June R. b. NC; Chester L. 5, b. VA; Frank J. 4 9/12 b. Canal Zone; and Mary E. 1 8/12 b. Canal Zone Bette
In the 1930 census I found some Bunkers in Hawaii that I cannot identify. Anybody know who they are related to? In Honolulu: Bunker, John age 52, b. Hawaii, father b. China, mom b. Hawaii, telephone lineman, race Asiatic Hawaiian as are all his children. Bunker, Annie age 35 b. Hawaii, wife, race Hawaiian. Children all b. Hawaii: William, 18, Rose 16, Solomon 14, James 11, John 10, Nauna (?) female, dau. age 7, Annie age 6, Martha 5 In Maui: Bunker, John age 34, b. Hawaii, race Hawaiian with wife Currielina 30 and children John 12, Julie 7, and Mary 2 11/12. I was unable to access the image for this one so do not have any other data. Bette
In the last letter I forgot about a couple Bunkers who were living with their stepfather and ignored Nels' family entirely. If you are interested in this family, in Carsonville, Becker Co. living with William Zimmerman age 53 b. Michigan with parents from Germany and his wife Minnie L. age 42 b. MN, a "full blood Chippewa" were his stepchildren: Charlie B. Bunker age 16, Rose I. Bunker age 14 and Simon M. Bunker age 3 9/12 all born MN and all listed as "mixed blood Chippewa" In Twin Lakes, Mahnomen Co., MN was Nels Bunker age 40 b. MN parents mixed blood Chippewa. Nels is the only one without a job listed of all the Bunkers in MN. Considering we were in the midst of a terrible depression, that's pretty good. Living with Nels were his wife Flora age 39, and children: Lloyd age 8, Corinne age 7, Phyliss age 6 and Ralph age 3 4/12, all born in MN with parents "mixed blood Chippewa". Sorry I spaced these guys out. Bette
