Hearing scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 9:30 A.M. Public Hearings on Vital Records bills to be held in Room A-1 by the JOINT COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS Call (617) 722-2120 for hearing schedule confirmation and directions. It is VERY important that genealogists and family history researchers are well represented at this hearing. Genealogists must make it clear that their views represent a large percentage of concerned citizens. If you cannot attend this hearing, you should contact your state representative, senator and the JOINT COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS members listed below to express your interest in the bills regarding access to vital records. If you do not have copies of the proposed bills (some are available on the Massachusetts legislature web site - see links below), request copies from your representative. You may also request documentation to support specific claims for "need" in the various measures. Researchers who are not Massachusetts residents may express the impact on their research and the resulting loss of tourism revenue and other issues that the members of the JOINT COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS should be aware of. There is still space available at the The Massachusetts Genealogical Council Annual Meeting at Regis College in Weston MA on Saturday March 29 - see http://massgencouncil.home.attbi.com/MGC_2003_Flyer.PDF or http://www.GenealogyFair.com for a text version of the program information. The Massachusetts Genealogical Council will update their website on Monday March 31 with information to help coordinate attendees at http://massgencouncil.home.attbi.com/index.htm Additional information for these hearings may be found as follows: JOINT COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS Room 472 State House Boston, MA 02133 Telephone: (617) 722-2120 It shall be the duty of the committee on Government Regulations to consider all matters concerning public utilities, gambling, the racing industry, the registration of various trades or professions, the issuance of licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages and such other matters as may be referred. Cousins, A 1st edition (1957) book of the Edward Bunker (D-185) descendants is up for bid on ebay. For those who don't know, this is the Morman branch of Bunkers. They trace their ancestors to James 1 of Dover. Good luck with the bidding gil
For the past year I have been working on producing a CD with all the known descendants of James Bunker who settled in Dover, NH about 1650. Today I ran a report on his descendants. We have over 6,900 names in this report. It is over 160 pages long with single spaced lines. There are quite a few pictures and stories to be added to the genealogical data. Sounds good huh? Well it isn't. Many people are worried about identity theft. While the only known cases of identity theft have been involved with the theft of credit cards, people are very protective about personal data and especially about their children. In order to protect the living I would need to cut off the data at about 1900. This means there would be less information on the CD than in our last two books. These were published in 1961 and 1982 when no one was worried about identity theft. It means that the stories from World War II would not be included. While there would be some additional lines that we have discovered before 1900, most of the new data comes from after 1900. While the books are more expensive than a CD would be, they both have considerably more data than the CD would have. Anyone can go on the internet and within a few minutes get the birthdate and place of just about anybody. They can also usually get their address, phone number, place of business, education, products they buy online and in the grocery store, car they drive and its license number, the schools their kids attend and all kinds of additional information. But people do not want it published in a genealogy book or on a genealogy CD. Rootsweb, Ancestry, Genealogy.com, LDS and other websites have up to date genealogical information on practically everyone. The 1930 census is online with the names, addresses, ages, occupations, and birth places of people that were living in 1930. These same people would not be included in a genealogy book because of the concern with identity theft. I can't figure out a good reason to continue on and make a CD of the information we have about James' descendants. I realize I should have thought more about this sooner. I am a retired judge and criminal trial lawyer. I am not the least bit worried about data being published about me or my children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. In fact in a few minutes any of you could find out all about them on the internet. I suppose that is why I did not think about the fact that I could not publish any of the latest information without upsetting a lot of people. I'm stymied. Since the vast majority of the people are convinced this would be highly dangerous to them and their families, I think I had better abandon the project. If anyone has any ideas for a substitute, I would be glad to hear them. Bette

Hi! In Henry L. Bunker's 1984 Bunker Family History, there are two possible candidates named for the father of George Bunker (N-1)-- Francis Bunker and his brother, Timothy Bunker. It seems that the general consensus is that George (N-1) was the son of Timothy. Could someone explain to me the reasoning behind why George, the son of Francis, was ruled out and George, the son of Timothy, was decided upon as the George who settled in Topsfield, Massachusetts? I would truly appreciate the help. Sincerely, Michelle Boyd

I just received the 2003 Ohio Genealogical Society Chapter Directory & Publications List. It is 72 pages of lists of publication, addresses, services, repositories, etc. in Ohio. Our Nantucket publication tells us that William Bunker md 8 Apr 1790 to Mary PITTS. William was lost at sea after the birth of their one child, Anna Bunker. Mary remarried to Elihu FOLGER, according to the BFA. Today I received the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 90, #4, Dec. 2002 which focuses on Family Bibles. Pages 304-305 cover the FOLGER FAMILY RECORD, NANTUCKET TO OHIO 1812. This records, first, the family of Jethro Folger b 1731 and his wife Mary b 1735. One son is Elihu. Elihu's record is covered second, and from what I can tell: Elihu m (1) Mary b 1764 d 1801; (2) Mary b 1770 d 1 Aug 1804; (3) Elizabeth, who was his wife when they left Nantucket and moved to Cincinnati in 1812; (4?) Anna. I believe that his second marriage was our Mary PITTS BUNKER because the death dates are the same. The *next* entry is: "Marcy SWAIN her mother departed this Life the first day of the 9 mo 1804 Aged 73 years. Whose mother is Marcy Swain? Could she have been Marcy (?) PITTS SWAIN, i.e. the wife of Mary's father Mr. Pitts who remarried to a Swain, or would she have been the mother of the first Mary? The entries have all been given in chronological order. I am wondering about his third wife, who is only mentioned in the following manner: "Anna Folger Wife to Elihu Folger departed this Life the 15 day of the 10 mo Ageed 48 years." The coincidence of her name being Anna makes me wonder whether Elihu married Anna BUNKER, daughter of his second wife Mary Pitts Bunker. But we have that Anna married, in 1809, Matthew COFFIN. Could he have died and she returned to live with Folger for lack of any other family? I'm hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on the lives of this family. Mary-Gene Page

Incidentally, we have almost 800 William Bunkers in the database and only 3 that married Margarets. At least that I can find. Unfortunately, none of them fits the 1850-1900 time frame. Bette
I found Margaret Agnew b. c. 1855, NY, in the 1880 census in New York City with her parents John T. Agnew b. c. 1815, NY and mother Mary b. c. 1823, NY. A search of Ancestry.com provided John Thomson Agnew b. 1815 New York City and Mary Corre Bostwick, b. 1823 New York City had a daughter Margaret Rae Agnew b. 15 Dec 1855 New York City. No sources listed. A search of the LDS site yields a sister Mary b. c. 1861. It also gives us a marriage between Margaret and William Bunker 16 Jan 1884. It states under children: none. No sources. There were scads of William Bunkers who might be Margaret's husband and I have not as yet found out which one it might be. Anybody else got any ideas?
