This is an interesting site that lists various English records and records of births and deaths at sea. You must register to use this site but it is free to register. You can then search free and if you find something you pay 25 pence for the image. You buy credits to do this and if you use your credit card they will convert to pence for you. It is about 32 cents US. There are some very interesting records on this site and it is worth the registration to do the free search. http://www.nationalarchivist.com/index.cfm Bette
I am trying to connect Eben and Nancy Bunker who were living in Waterloo, Shefford Co., Quebec, Canada around 1833-1864. The cemetery there has two grave sites for them: Betsey, daughter of Eben & Nancy Bunker, died Jul 6, 1833, age 13 y. Nancy, wife of Eben Bunker, died Aug 15, 1864, aged 43 y. There is something wrong with the dates here. Nancy appears to have been born in 1821, one year after her daughter Betsey who was born in 1820. If this is a transcription error and Betsey was actually 3 years old, it still does not make sense as that would make her mother 9 years old when Betsey was born. Next to these graves are the graves of Sylvia, wife of Thomas J. Bunker, Andrew P., son of Shepherd, Bradley C., son of Shepherd, Eveline Castle wife of Shepherd and Shepherd. Shepherd was the son of Thomas J. and Sylvia Bunker. There is no record that an Eben was born to this family. To have a child aged 13 in 1833, Eben should have been born about 1800 and could have been a brother to Thomas J. who was born in 1803. Thomas was one of two sons of Isaac and Sally Parker Bunker. He was born in Meredith, NH Isaac and Sally married in Aug 1799. Their first child was born Sep 1801 and Thomas J. was born in Nov 1803. A child could have been born to them in 1800 or 1802. Isaac and Sally left NH and moved to Shefford Co., Quebec, Canada in 1807. About 1860 another Bunker family came to Shefford Co., Quebec, Canada but from 1807 through 1860, I can find no other Bunkers in this area except the family of Isaac and Sally. Does anyone have any idea who the parents of Eben were? Or where he came from? Sure could use some help here. Thanks. Bette
There was a CCC camp in Bunker, Missouri although I have no idea what they were building. Bunker, MO was founded as a logging community and there just isn't much to see, even today. gil ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bette Richards" <betterichs@earthlink.net> To: <BUNKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 6:20 PM Subject: CCC's > Here is a wonderful site for information and rosters for the Civilian > conservation corps. Subject: Passengers to Baltimore Now Online - 1st 6 Months of 1839 Hello All, I have recently completed transcribing the names of the passengers who arrived in Baltimore during the first six months of 1839. Most of the passengers came from Germany. Others were from Great Britain, Ireland and the West Indies. 1839 Baltimore Passenger Lists Database (1st 6 Months of the Year) http://www.genesearch.com/baltimore/1839.html It should be pointed out that the Customs (Federal) Baltimore Passenger Lists and the separately kept Baltimore City Lists have not survived for 1839. You will not find any passenger lists for 1839 on National Archives Microfilm M255-2 (which covers April 7, 1837 to July 31, 1840). This database was extracted from the microfilmed Baltimore Quarterly Abstracts, which were compiled at the end of each quarter of 1839 (and other years as well). What you can find in this database for each passenger... Name, Age, Gender, Occupation, Country to Which They Belong, and Country They Intend to Inhabit. You will not find ship names, exact arrival dates or ports of departure. The Quarterly Abstracts for Baltimore do not have that information. Also, the Quarterly Abstracts may not have included every passenger. This database was made to help fill in the gaps in otherwise missing Baltimore passenger records. For help locating Baltimore passenger lists in other years see... Baltimore Passenger Lists Quick Guide 1820-1952 http://www.genesearch.com/baltimore/quickguide.html From the Roots list. Bette

Hi all: I recommend that you go to the following web page ... http://www.stevemorse.org/ and add it to your list of favorites. To take it for a spin, use the interface to anybirthday.com and use the name Wayburn Thompson as a test case. Just enter the first digit of the ZIP code (a '9'). Note that you get an extra datum you do not get when you just use the www.anybirthday.com search engine page; that datum tells you the sex of the individual. That may seem inconsequential, but there are occassions where it is a real boon. As an example, one of the people on staff where I work is named Wyatt Merritt; and Wyatt is a woman! Best regards H.A. Kippenhan, Jr. P.S. - my thanks to my colleague at work (Dr. Walter Brown) for directing me to Stephen Morse's web pages. _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [SCGSI] Thoughts On Genealogy Resent-Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2003 13:37:11 -0600 *Thoughts On Genealogy* Genealogy: Tracing yourself back to better people. I trace my family history so I will know who to blame. Can a first cousin, once removed, return? Searching for lost relatives? Win the lottery! Do I even WANT ancestors? Genealogy: Where you confuse the dead and irritate the living. Every family tree has some sap in it. Friends come and go, but relatives tend to accumulate. Genealogists never die, they just lose their roots. Genealogy: A haystack full of needles. It's the threads I need. Heredity: Everyone believes in it until their children act like fools. I think my family tree is a few branches short of full bloom. Theory of relativity: I f you go back far enough, we're all related.

Hi, Does anyone know of a good genealogy program for an eMac? I have been using Family Origins and planned to switch to Family Tree Maker until I bought an eMac. FO and FTM do not support Apple computers. Stephan D. Bunker
Does anyone know who the Priscilla Bunker b. about 1710 was who married William Gustin/Gustine? The Gustine's were from CT or at least some of them were. Bette
Go to http://www.familysearch.com and download free of charge PAF and its updates. It will do just about everything that FTM does if not more and is free and as far as I know works on Mac. At least it is worth a try. Bette -----Original Message----- From: Stephan D. Here are maps of 62 towns in Scotland that were surveyed between 1847-1985. http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/townplans/index.html By the way, Ancestry.com has put the images of the 1880 census online along with the index. If you are not a member of Ancestry, you can get the 1880 census index free along with the 1881 England and Canada census indexes free at the Family Search site of LDS. They have the images too now but you have to pay to view the images unless you are a member of the church. http://www.familysearch.org Bette

Bunky gained a whole 15 lbs in 9 mos. shot up to 110. Phew! Grandparents Gil & Carole suffered no ill effects from the event (it was easy). gil
Sometimes I can get pretty silly crunching numbers. For those of you who find numbers BORING, click on delete now. In 1790 we had been a separate country for 6 years and the first federal census was taken. There were 80 Bunker households in the US at the time. 30 of them were in Nantucket, 20 in New Hampshire, 13 in New York, 1 in Maryland, 7 in Maine and 3 in Pennsylvania. The remaining 6 households were in Massachusetts but in counties other than Nantucket. In 1800 there were 74 Bunker households. 24 were in Nantucket, 14 in New Hampshire, 12 in Maine and 7 in New York. We had also moved into Delaware, and Ohio. In 1810 there were 135 Bunker households. 1820 148 households. In 1830 there was a big jump to 244 and in 1840 there were 243. I suspect there was a bit of immigration during this period. In 1850 we really grew with 611 households in the US now. This was the first census that listed the names of all the household members. However, the index that is on Ancestry.com lists only the names of the heads of household. By 1880 there were 3,039 Bunkers in the US. The index for this census lists all the names. In 1920 the index lists only the heads of households again and there were 1,339 households. In 1930 the index lists all the names and there were 3,900 Bunkers. This is the last census that has been published. It is amazing that in 50 years the number of Bunkers in the US had only increased by 861 people. Now you know the numbers. I believe today we have Bunkers in every state in the union plus Puerto Rico. Bette
I just got in the latest results for our DNA surname project. We now have a Nantucket Bunker descendant that matches the Bedfordshire Bunkers. This is proof that George who married Elizabeth Godfrey and Jane Godfrey was a descendant of Roger of Tingrith. We also got in results for two descendants of James Bunker of Dover, NH. They are descended from different sons of James (2). They also match so we can be certain of the haplotype of James of Dover, NH too. There is another Bunker whose pedigree that I do not have but he matches the Dover Bunkers too so is a descendant of James of Dover, NH. This is really good as now if we have a Bunker that does not know who he is descended from and he matches one of these it will help narrow down the search for his connecting ancestor. We are still looking for more German Bunkers to take the test, descendants of the twins, descendants of the Verboncoeurs, Dutch Bunkers, Native Americans, African Americans and Charleston Bunker descendants. And I am looking for a descendant of Thomas Jefferson Bunker of Lena, IL I would like to test. I will personally pay for the test for the T.J. Bunker descendant. Is anyone interested? Look for a new report in the next Bunker Banner. Bette
