    2. Bette Richards
    3. I rarely send out anything about viruses. However, my virus protection just stopped and deleted two different messages supposedly from Microsoft Support and Support Services for a new patch that should be installed immediately. Both were infected with a virus. Norton caught it and deleted it but if you get a message like this it is a good idea to delete it and go to the Microsoft website to check for any needed updates or patches. If you go to the website to get any needed patches or updates you should be okay but when they come as an attachment to an email message be very careful. Also be sure to update your virus protection regularly. If you do not have an automatic update feature on your virus protection, check for an update every time you turn on your computer. Bette

    3. Thanks to everyone who was concerned for my kids. They left the Cape last night and were going to Rocky Mount which is about 100 miles inland. I can't get ahold of them now but I think they are in a dead spot for the cell phone is all. They should get rained on a lot but are off the island and far enough inland that the wind should not be much. Whew! Maybe now I can think straight for a few days. Bette

    3. I am very nervous right now about Isabel. My son and family are on Cape Hatteras. The coast guard workers left their homes this morning. He plans on leaving Wed morning. I want him to leave NOW but his boss wants him to leave Thursday morning (that is when it is scheduled to hit). I hope all of you are well prepared and everyone on the coast leaves as soon as possible. I have been in 80 mph winds but never 125 mph ones. 80 mph is bad enough. Blows pretty hard. My kids live in a motor home so I am having real problems with them driving the thing across the bridge to the mainland. I don't know how high the bridge is but the waves are now 9 feet high and the hurricane is still over 700 miles away. At sea level, 9 feet of water is pretty awesome. There are times I really am glad that I live in the desert. Actually, most of the time. The whole east coast looks like it is in for some real storms here. Hang on to your hats guys. I hope all of you do ok. Bette

    1. Interesting article on identity theft ...
    2. H.A. Kippenhan, Jr.
    3. Hi all: We've all witnessed various state legislatures tighten access controls on vital records. Ostensibly, they do this to curb identity theft. In truth, it's a knee-jerk reaction to a problem about which the know very little; moreover, they can't be bothered to take the time to learn anyhting about the problem. They simply must do something, even if the "something" is wrong, wrong, wrong. At any rate, here's an article from the OpEd section of USA Today that also appears in today's issue of Yahoo News ... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/usatoday/20030912/cm_usatoday/11848448 Best regards - Kipp - _________________________________________________________________ Try MSN Messenger 6.0 with integrated webcam functionality! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/tracking/reach_webcam

The Library has a collection of church and association records, and periodicals, with obituaries, and membership lists have been extracted and entered into a database which now has about 44,000 names, about half of which are for Illinois. 1. finding people
    2. Bette Richards
    3. Are you trying to find cousins or old friends? If you know the state where they might be living go to msn.com and click on the white pages. This should be located down on the left side of your screen. When the search box comes up put in their name and the state and you may find them. If the name is not too common, you can leave it to search all states and you will get all the people of that name with phone numbers listed in the country. If you want to check out the people in the state just put in the last name and you will get all those with that last name. This does not work too well with a common last name but with Bunker for instance, in Arizona there are 74 including 2 Bunkers with an s. Some of these people have more than one phone number. This is one way to find people to help you look for lost relatives. Calling them or writing to them may get a response that helps you solve your genealogical questions. If you want to see how much privacy you or anyone else has, click on the line that says new instant background check and see what comes up. A satellite photo of their property, a credit check, their birthdate. It costs to get additional information but you can see how easy it is to get information about anyone. Then go into any search site including msn.com and type a name like "Bette Richards" in quotes in the search box and see what you get. Bette

    1. Another vulnerability in Microsoft Windows operating systems
    2. H.A. Kippenhan, Jr.
    3. Hi all: Microsoft (on Sept. 10, 2003) issued another security bulletin (MS03-039) regarding a security hole in the following operating systems ... o Windows NT (workstation & server) o Windows 2000 (workstation & server) o Windows XP (workstation) o Windows 2003 (server) While there are no known exploits (as of Sept. 11, 2003), security experts believe the code of the Blaster worm could be easily modified to take advantage of this newly discovered vulnerability. I advise everybody that uses any of the above Windows Operating System variants to use the Windows Update capability of Internet Explorer to download and install the patch. It's much easier to install it now and prevent your home PC from being infected than it is to clean up the mess *after* your PC has been infected by one of these worms. If this security hole is akin to the last one, your PC can be infected at any time it is connected to the Internet. You don't have to read an e-mail message that contains the virus payload. Best regards H.A. Kentucky has put an index of its oral histories on line. http://205.204.246.206/oh/browse.aspx You can search this by name of the subject, the name of the interviewee, etc. A surname search can be done in the search all repositories box. Bunkers not appearing often in KY, I did not pick up any of them so I tried a common name, Clark, and got a lot of hits. It looks like a good KY source. Bette

    1. 1895 Iowa census
    2. Bette Richards
    3. Ancestry has put online the 1895 Iowa census. For those of you researching the Andrew Melville Bunker family, Andrew J. is there in Jasper with his family. There are also several German Bunkers. If anyone wants me to look up their Iowa family in 1895 let me know. There were 144 Bunkers. I expect many of them are Germans as I can't find them in our database and we do not have all of the Iowa German Bunkers. I am working on that now though. Bette
