From the Cape Cod Times, 24 Feb 2004: Carolyn Watts Bunker, 90 Brewster resident; painter, hooked rugs BREWSTER - Carolyn "Reddy" Watts Bunker, 90, died Sunday at her home. She was the wife of Henry Bunker III, who died in 1990. They were married in 1935. Mrs. Bunker grew up in Lombard, Ill., the youngest of seven children. She was artistically inclined but could not afford to attend school during the Depression. She later took art courses and painted and hooked primitive rugs. After marrying, she and her husband were often separated as he crisscrossed the country on business during World War II. After the war they settled in Swarthmore, Pa., and remained there except for a two-year assignment in Argentina. She was a member of the Swarthmore chapter of PEO. When her husband retired, they started summering on Cape Cod and wintering in Sanibel, Fla. She lived in Brewster for the past 25 years. Survivors include three daughters, Maryanne Daly of Hartford, Conn., Nancy Smith of Moorestown, N.J., and Molly Korner of Newton; a son, Henry Bunker IV of Brewster; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services are private.
In Tucson, we are fortunate to have an extremely talented dancer and choreographer named Anne Bunker. She owns the O-T-O Dance studio. Anne is also remarkable in that she has a double Charleston ancestry. Both her mother and father are descendants of George Bunker of Charleston. Anne's dance troupe and Anne will be performing the weekend of our reunion. There are performances Fri and Sat nights at 8 pm. The cost is $12 for adults if purchased in advance. These shows usually sell out. We should have plenty of cars here to transport people to the studio unless everyone decides to go in which case I will see about other transportation. Annie's dancing is so beautiful and so different. Her husband does beautiful photography to accompany some of the dances. Since we have a party scheduled for Sat night which might make us late in getting to dinner, I suggest we go on Fri night. Please let me know immediately if you are interested in going. Tickets at the door cost $2 more. I will see if I can get a block of tickets and also if it is possible for us to meet with Annie after the show. Remember she will be exhausted so that might not be possible. Bette

If you are looking for French refugees to England in the 1700s this is a good site. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~frpayments/Index.htm This came from the Feb 18 issue of Rootsweb Review which you can subscribe to by sending an email with no message addressed to RWR-on@rootsweb.com This issue is particularly good as it gives ideas on searching Rootsweb for many foreign sources and other hints to doing more in depth searching on Rootsweb. On June 12, 1788, Benjamin Hunken (Hunking, Hunkins) married Betty Bunker, both of Madbury, NH. They were married by Benjamin Balch, minister. Does anyone know who this is? Bette
Some of the more recent messages sent to the Bunker-L mailing list pose questions about relatives without identifying the possible connections to anyone with a Bunker name. I realize that people doing genealogy often belong to many lists, but if the person posting will identify the possible connection with the Bunkers, it might help people in responding. Otherwise, queries about individuals with other surnames are likely to go unanswered. Douglas G. An update for BFA and other Bunker-L list members. Gil Bunker, who's computer crashed 3 1/2 weeks ago, is still unable to receive e-mail, though progress is being made on restoring his computer capability. He notes longingly that this has been the "longest" 3 1/2 weeks of his life. We'll keep you posted on his progress. Hopefully he'll be back up before leaving for the reunion in Tucscon in March. In the meantime, feel free to contact Bette Bunker Richards with your genealogical questions. *************** Douglas G. Detling, D15-II BFA Bunker Family Association web site coordinator
Jack sent me this Idea... """"Perhaps a better idea is to find someone yourself, who you know would be interested and trustworthy, and specify him or her in your Will. That was my approach. I felt that my family and Executor would have more than enough to do and should not have to deal with my genealogy files, etc., as well.""""" Jack Ott researching the ROTH family from Karbach From myself, That would be a good idea, as my grandfather had records, and didn't do anything with them and I found out he was into Genealogy, from an Family ASSOC. he belonged to, when I got in. His records were lost forever. My step grand mother, (whom I have no clue to .her prev. last name), family got everything from my grand father as he passed away 2 weeks before she died. My father controlled everything and wanted no problems with the family. I cannot talk to him about any of this, as he is a control freak in his 80's, and wants no part of Genealogy thanks to my half cousin who is in genealogy. My grandmother and her grandfather were married before my grandmother married my grandfather. The opinions of who was the good vs. who was the bad person, are very different. (My opinion is, that a man that takes on another mans children as his own in way of raising, feeding, clothing, with no support form the alcoholic real father is a good person.) If this statement insults anyone, I am so sorry.) Somehow she insulted him or his mother in some way, as he is VERY protective of his mother. Who knows how. He will not give me any info. on how life was. My mother is under his control and is clueless.

This came to me from another mailing list I am on and I thought it was a terrific thing. I am sure you are all like me and have spent hundreds of hours gathering information, it would be a shame to see it lost in the next generation. Hope it does some good. Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor: Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and telephone numbers if known] In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national contact information and addresses] Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them available to others in the future. I was looking at census records today and found Cyrena with Henry Perry in 1870 in Panton, Addison Co., VT with her children Ida, Richard H. and Sheridan. In 1880 they were in Starksboro and had another son, George. In 1900 they were in Charlotte, Chittenden Co., VT. Henry was working for a guy named Kellogg as was their daughter Ida who by this time had married a guy named Mark Buman. Mark was working on one side of the Kellogg place and Cyrena was living on the other side. Cyrena had another son with her which looks like Carneli E. b. Feb 1886 but that name does not make sense and was poorly written. I cannot clearly read the number of children she had but it appears to be 4 children with 4 living. This makes 5 so I don't know. There was an article in the Banner, p. 1128, which gave 4 husbands for Cyrena including two named Pratt six months apart in 1866. It appears she married Henry Perry in 1866 (married 34 years in 1900) and stayed married to him until she was at least 60 years old. I did not find any of them in the 1910 census. According to the 1900 census birthdates are as follows. All places of birth are VT Henry Perry b. Nov 1838 Cyrena b. Aug 1840 Ida b. Aug 1861 m. c. 1879 (21 yrs in 1900) Mark J. Buman b. Nov 1856, children: Mary J. b. Sep 1884, Abbie F. b. Nov 1889 and another probably as Ida was listed with 3 children, 3 living in the 1900 census. Richard H. b. c. 1867, age 3 in the 1870 census Sheridan b. Oct 1870 Ida appears to have been born before Henry and Cyrena were married unless I am reading the numbers wrong and they had been married 39 years in 1900. That would make a marriage in 1861, the same year as Ida was born. Our database has a marriage date of Jul 1866 but there is no source and that is supposed to be the date Cyrena married Henry Pratt according to the Banner article. Bette
Brian sent this site for Australian military from the Sudan war to WW II. It includes WW I. Good source. Too bad American doesn't have something similar. Bette
Good news. The idiot in the State Dept in San Francisco decided that a man named Archie Richards existed and therefore so must Bette Richards. Or at least I think that was his reasoning as I got the passport today. I am still amazed as I never did supply any proof I was ever married to Archie. I can't for the life of me figure out why proving Archie's name was Richards proves that my name is also Richards. Oh well. All I care about is that now maybe I can go to Germany and see my daughter. I can't find the orig. e-mail I wanted to sent part of it. But it said the court cert. The three over finances, insane, but can stay at home. I ask the nice lady, what she thought the town court would call the creator of AOL or Yahoo? My answer. ((("" Did it say anything about Mose, He was My grandfather. In 1920 was head of house hold in Nevada. They moved from ILL in 1902 when Jonas Butterfield Bunker died, and bought lots of land and lots of horses. Then the horses became ill and died losing everything. Everyone thought they were crazy for taking the risk. In ILL they were always well to do farmers, raising livestock. There family had some money. Elizabeth was too old to learn business I guess. I wonder what the people of Nevada back then would have said about the person who came up with AOL or Yahoo? My father Carl M. Bunker was born in Nevada and lives in Irwin. He was in Japan, Korea, and Vietnam twice.( He was in the very first group of Army that landed in Vietnam. He got 2 accommodation medals. He was asked, and get this, TO HEAD UP ALL THE COMMUNICATIONS LINES (wire taps Guess now) for the President Nixon Campaign 2 , but he turned it down for retirement, and got out of the Army. (good choice).""" ))). The Bushwhacker society is publishing a book on the people and history of Nevada, MO. in Veron County. I would love to see the BFA put in a piece about Bunkers.
