    1. Weisser/Schmidt in Lieufen (sp???)
    2. Posted by Cate Daniel <metamorphosis@uswest.net> on Sat, 14 Nov 1998 Surnames: WEISSER, SCHMIDT We have been told that my ggrandparents emigrated to USA from Lieufen (sp??) possibly near Hamburg. I am searching for information about the location of the town and about family members. Karl Schmidt b. 1840 in Germany, d. 1923 in OK, USA. Wilhemina Weisser, born 07 November, 1856 in Lieufen??, Germany, d. 15 November, 1942 in OK, USA. Karl came to US in 1880. Wilhemina joined him in 1881, bringing 2 children Kathryn b. 14 October, 1879 and Thekla b. 22 September, 1880. An older daughter, Pauline b. about 1878 was left in Germany to join them in the USA later. This never happened. Pauline had contact with the family in the USA until WWI. We know she did marry and had at least two sons that were killed in WWI. Does anyone have any information about: - the town of Lieufen ?? (It is hard to read the handwriting, it could easily be another town name. We think they were from the Hamburg region.) - the family remaining in Germany - parents of either Wilhemina or Karl This feels like a very small needle in a very large haystack. Any assistance anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cate
