    1. [BULLOCK-L] (BULLOCK-l)Richard Bullock of Rehoboth
    2. Greetings, Jim Bullock, et al.: Your Richard is not in my line, which is Richard Bullock, who died abt. 1702 in Surry, Co., Va., and his wife Mary Hawkins. There were many Richard Bullocks in Virginia, etc., in the 1600s and some present Bullock line claim from Capt. Hugh Bullock, in: COLONIAL GRANVILLE COUNTY AND ITS PEOPLE: By Worth S. Ray: Southern Book Co., Baltimore, Md., 1956. This book is very informative, but has many errors, particularly, with regard to brothers and sons of Capt. Hugh and Capt. Hugh's descendants. I believe, a person born in the United States would have much (if not impossible) difficulty in proving he or she descended from Capt. Hugh. There are several southern BULLOCK lines. One of those lines (and probably, the predominant one) is known as: RICHARD OF GRANVILLE (Granville County, North Carolina). Another line is my line, starting with Richard Bullock and his wife, Mary Hawkins, and their son, Richard (who was not 18 yrs. of age, in 1702) who married Elizabeth Shockey, a neighbor, all who lived in Surry C., Va., near today's South-West corner of Surry County, which borders with Sussex County and ______ County. I believe there is no connection between my line and your line or Capt. Hugh's line, or Richard of Granville; and, that my Richard was a fortunate (or unfortunate) boy in England who was shipped to Virginia in the early or middle 1600s to people Virginia and was a tithable of Benjamin Harrison, !!, ancestor or the two Harrison Presidents. I have in my database the following which may be some help to you: "RICHARD (1622-67), From Eng., 1643/44, settled at Rehoboth, Mass.; freeman, 1646; town clk., 1659-67;excise cxollector; one of two men appointed to regulate trade with the Indians; m 1647, Elizabeth Ingraham (m 1659); m 2d, Elizabeth Billington. IMMIGRANT ANCESTORS, A List Of 2500 Immigrants To America Before 1750, Edited by Fredrick Adams Virkus, Extracted from Volume VII, Compendium Of American genealogy, genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1986." "BULLOCK. RICHARD (1622-67) Mass.; Elizabeth Ingraham. Founder; Freeman. SEVENTEENTH CENTURY COLONIAL ANCESTORS, Compiled by Mary Louise Marshall Hutton; Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1987". "RICHARD BULLOCK, IMMIGRANT, B 1622 ESSEX ENG. accompanied in 1636 Two brothers: Henry and Edward to America, one settling in Virginia; Richard came to East Providence, R.I., with Roger Williams, who had been banished from the Boston Area, Colonial History says these colonishts had very strong religious convictions, which included paying the Indians for their land. Roger Williams said: 'The God Land is to us English what the gold was to the Spanish'. A penisular near Providence is called: BULLOCK'S POINT. RICHARD owned property and spent most of his life at nearby Rehoboth, Mass. RICHARD (1622-1667) married Elizabeth Ingraham August 4, 1647. Their son, Samuel married Thankful Rouse and their sons were: SETH, EBENEZER, NATHAN AND SAMUEL." Part of information sent to me by edna Harrington, 1384 So.
