Posted on: Bullock Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Bullock/10288 Surname: Bullock, Cameron, Bradshaw, Dunlop, Aucoin ------------------------- Chuck I have friends that own an historic Bar in Amherstburg On Canada The bar was originally opened as a hotel in 1836/37 by George Bullock according to the history Seth Bullock was Georges son there is also a mention of a George Bullock having a daughter named Mary Ann .. The Hotel was sold in 1850 and George Bullock was appointed District Treasurer..My friends restored the building and reopened the business operating now as The Old Bullock Tavern.. At the present time this is all the info I have ... Here is a quote from March 1978 edition of The Amherstburg Echo, written by Mr. David Botsford Historian " After years Seth Bullock , a son of George Bullock became a noted frontier character in the American West and was a friend of Theodore Roosevelt. Still later, Seth Bullock assisted Roosevelt in raising the Calvary Regiment known as the " Rough Riders" for service in Cuba and the Spanish American War.) Amherstburg On is located on the Detroit River southwest of Detroit on the Canadian side.. For interests sake I have included the following The Bullock Tavern made history on both the American and Canadian side of the border in 1837 apparently a young american gentleman Patrick Fitzpatrick stayed at the tavern overnight a man who was sharing his room raped the daughter ( Mary Ann) of George Bullock Fitzpatrick was falsely accused by Mary Ann of the rape a subsequently hanged in Sandwich On. Three years later the other man confessed to the rape .. This fuelled pro- abolisionists , including members of the Michigan state legislators , eventually bringing about an end to the death penalty in Canada.. Hope this helps with your research .. feel free to email me .. remkat0@netzero.com Katherine Dunlop
