For Claire and others wanting to check my data that is on RootsWeb's WorldConnect, there are several ways to get there. To go directly to the database, use http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=jbbullock. It can also be accessed through the WorldConnect Project at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/. Enter "jbbullock" in the box that says "Database". Then you can search for names, and when you find an individual of interest, you can check his pedigree chart or descendant chart. (Note to anyone looking for the Hix/Hicks family, I have used the "Hicks" spelling throughout since that is the way the later descendants spelled it.) A few words about the database and the sources: This isn't specifically a Bullock database. Besides researching my father's immigrant paternal ancestor, Richard Bullock of Rehoboth, I am working on my mother's paternal line which began with John Medbury of Swansea. Because both parents' ancestors came from the same area, my work is focused on everyone in the Rehoboth/Swansea, MA, area with any ties to either family. Most of the data is from the Colonial era; I follow very few lines past the early 1800s. I haven't done much in-depth research on specific individuals. Most of my data comes from towns' vital records, probate records, or published biographies & genealogies. All of those sources are cited in my database. Earlier entries for the Bullock family that don't show sources came mostly from a "starter database" sent to me some years ago by my 2nd cousin Jim Bullock of Amarillo. A lot of the early work was done by Jim, Ginny Deagan, Lynnea Dickinson, Peter Bullock, and others. Early entries for the Medbury relatives that don't show sources came from a Medbury/Medbery family genealogy by Elizabeth W. Medbery. Sources that I use are MA VRs published on CD-ROMs from Search & Research, Arnold's RI VRs on CD, Beaman's RI probate abstracts on CD, Rounds's Bristol Co. probate books, Providence town records on CD, several Mayflower CDs, NEHGR on CD, the NGS Quarterly CD, Bliss's & Bowen's books on Rehoboth, several Swansea books, some Plymouth books, Pope, Savage, Torrey, the Great Migration series, several published family genealogies, a couple of Carl Boyer's books, the US census index, and online subscriptions to ancestry.com & genealogylibrary.com, plus a few others. I usually update the database at least once a week. It went from about 9,500 names in Jan. 2000, to over 16,000 names at year end. But what is more important is that I have been adding source information for what I already had. All of those names, dates, and places don't have much value if the user doesn't know where the information came from. I still have some "garbage" that came from online databases that I'm trying to weed out. I always appreciate hearing from others about additions, corrections, or comments regarding the data. I also try to do further research if it's in one of my sources. But if it involves anything outside of MA & RI in the earlier centuries, then I probably can't help. I do have a few sources for CT & NY, but they are somewhat limited. I'll be adding more to my collection as the budget allows--about one book or CD each month. Incidentally, ancestry.com is starting to add census images online for subscribers. There isn't much there yet, but it should be a good resource in the future. Jim Bullock Littleton, CO
