Continued from last e-mail. Before the day of computer it was often necessary to go to the source of informaiton, if church records were not available for birth, wills not available, land records might be helpful. This is what I sought when I contacted Records of Deeds, sales and purchases in Rehoboth Mass. and this is what I have used to verify the line of descent from Richard. Often family members were used to witness. Then he sent this Daniel Bullock and Mercy Bullock witnessed by Aaron Thresher and Comfort Bullock. And we Mercy ye wife of Daniel Bullock and Bethiah ye wife of said Comfort Bullock in Testimony of their acquitting of their right of Dower or Power of Thirds in & above demissed premises. In wetness whereof we have here unto et our hands & Seals this Twenty first Day of February in ye year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and niney seven and of American Independence of twenty first signed by Daniel Bullock , Mercy Bullock, Comfort Bullock and Bethiah Bullock, witnessed by David Perry Jr. and Asahse or Afahes Hix and so be it. That's what I have but I don't understand it. Wish I could get to Rehoboth and look into the old records. If you can make anything out of it let me know. Claire
Hi, I dug up the record someone sent me over the net. I am unsure where it came from. It was sent to me by Peter Bullock. This is what it says. It doesn't make sense to me. It says Date: 1 April 1786 Signers Daniel Bullock and Mercy Bullock (Note the tenth of American Independence Now, Daniel and Mercy are US Independents) almost 3 years after the close of the Revolutionary War) Daniel is age 67 at this signing. Do we know who AAron Thresher is? Date:21 Feb. 1797 Signers Daniel Bullock, Mercy Bullock, Comfort Bullock, Bethiah Bullock Witnesses: David Pery Jr. and Ashahse (Afahse)Hix. (note at this signing Daniel is age 78. Comfort is age 33, going on 34 and had been married 12 years. What is "their right of Dower or Power of Thirds in and above demissed premises"? Again, who are David Pery, Jr. and Ashahse (Afahse) Hix? Peter is writing the above to Daine Straight. Diane, do you have the whole documents these statements were taken from? I am curious to know what the properities were, where they were located, who was selling, who was buying, etc. Several houses existed during the Revolutionin this neighborhood. Hezekiah Hix lived at the site of the present George Schoeler house, conveyin the farm to Nathan His in 1780. Although a house, barn and cornbarn were supposedly included, Nathan reported on his military pension application that he was living in a " "small black-smith shop". (Jonathan Russell Bullock said in his manuscript, that Daniel 3 was a blaacksmith.) One of Nathan's descendents, Jesse Peck, said that Nathan built the present house. North of the Hix homestead was a small farm owned by Ebenezer bullock. Still further north near the present Theodore Maddern house, Squire bullock owned a small farm. Benjamin Hix-381 Anawan Street The Hix family settled early in the Anawan Street area, with James Hix owning property mid-way up the street before 1733 and Ephraim Hix acquiring land at Anawan Corner" near the present Route 44. in 1765 Ephraim gave his son, Benjamin about 33 acres of land, including the sites of the present Anawan Barn and Rehoboth Plaza. Benjamin and his descendants lived here for years, the farm being split in two with the construction of Route 44. in the early 1800's. The house a large, 21/2 story structure was situated a bit north of the present Charles Waterman Jr. house. The last Hix to live here was Orris Hix in the mid 1800's. The house eventually falling into desrepair and torn down by the Watermans about ten years ago. I am going to continue this in another e-mail. Maybe you can puzzle it out. This is correspondence from Peter Bullock to me and from Diane Straight to him Claire

Even if Daniel wasn't identified in the deed as Comfort's father, if the deed mentions that the land was given or bequeathed to Comfort by Daniel, that would be a very strong indication of a father/son relationship. Gifts or bequeaths were usually from parents to children. It would be interesting to know what the deed says. They were living in Kent Co, Del. about 1905, possibly in or around Harrington. One of their children was WORTHA BULLOCK b. 1882 in Del, d. 1930 in Caroline Co, Md, who married Daniel EVELAND I am looking for Jefferson and Nora's other children, ESPECIALLY their daughter who died in childbirth about 1906 - prob born about 1885 in Delaware ; possibly buried in or around Harrington, Kent Co, Del. with the last name (surname) of BULLOCK. Her given name has eluded me for several years. I am also looking for the parents of Jefferson BULLOCK. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help that you can give me. Chuck, Jeverna beat me to it. The sources she gave are the same ones I found. Any time you want to check for sources, I have included all that I've found in my database, "jbbullock", in RootsWeb's WorldConnect, http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/. Most of my resources are for events that occurred in MA & RI, so for other data, I have had to rely on others' information. Dottie, many of us have Daniel & Mary (Sayer) Bullock as Comfort's parents, but we can't prove that the Comfort who married Bethia Bowen & Sybil Peirce is the same as Daniel & Mary's son. His birth isn't included in Arnold's VR for Rehoboth. Claire, when you said that the land deed has "the four of them on it", I assume that you meant Comfort, Bethia, Daniel & Mary/Mercy. Right? Without the relationships spelled out, it isn't conclusive, but it's at least pretty good circumstantial evidence. Or did it have Mercy's parents rather than Comfort's? That would not be as helpful. I am a Bullock researcher also, but as far as I know he is not of my line. However, I ran across some information on him. I don't know what you are looking for on Comfort Bullock, but I have some information on him from Revolutionary War Pension Abstracts.(abstracted by Ginny Deagan). At the end it states that Able Bullock and Major M. Bullock sons and executors of the estate of Comfort Bullock stated that Comfort died in the city of Hudson, Columbia Co. NY 23 July 1851 leaving no widow. Children are: Able, Major, Benjamin, $ Berthia L. Knox Sally Knox and Mercy Ackley. Does this help? If you need the rest I will type it and send it to you.
